TROPICAL FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND v NORTH QUEENSLAND LADIES CHALLENGE

The inaugural Inter District Ladies Challenge is coming to Marlin Coast Bowls Club on September 12 & 13, 2026.

Three teams from each district will play three games of 18 ends over the two days, so there will be plenty of great bowls and exciting competition to enjoy! The action kicks off at 9:00am.

Beyond the scoreboard, this Challenge is all about growth. Both districts are dedicated to building a pathway for emerging talent to reach District level. To keep the competition focused on development, selection was exclusive to players who haven't represented their district at the BQ District Sides in the last two years.

We would love to see as many people as possible come along to Marlin Coast Bowls Club to support these ladies. However, if you can’t make it to the club, you can still catch all the action LIVE on YouTube, proudly brought to you by Rink 9.

Come along, or tune in and support the ladies in what promises to be a fantastic weekend of bowls!

Otematata Bowling Club

We were privileged recently to host 12 bowlers plus partners from Otematata, a holiday town on the South Island of New Zealand. The green was buzzing as we played four rinks of triples, mixing Aussies and Kiwis to spark some real camaraderie, plenty of laughs, and the kind of friendly sledging that only happens when two nations who love bowls (and bragging rights) collide.

After play wrapped up, everyone settled in for drinks and a BBQ, sharing stories, comparing greens, and enjoying the easy friendship that bowls seems to create wherever you go.

A huge thank you to our Bowling Committee team for organising the day so smoothly. It was an afternoon full of memories, and the Kiwis were genuinely impressed with the facilities at our Club — which is always lovely to hear.

🌟 A Huge August for Trish Spicer 🌟

August was nothing short of extraordinary for Trish Spicer, who packed more bowls into one month than most of us manage in a season. She represented Qld in the NSW vs Qld Para Test series which was played over two days. The format of the series is three tests and three games per day and Trish played in the singles, pairs and triples. NSW won the first test but Qld dug deep and won the next two, bringing home the Shield. To make it even sweeter, Trish was named Player of the Series.

The following week she backed it up at the Multi‑Disability State Championships. After four days of singles and pairs, Trish finished runner‑up in the singles, adding yet another podium finish to her growing list.

Then, barely catching her breath, she lined up again two weeks later at the Ladies Edge Hill Classic. In a special moment, three Queensland para representatives ended up on the same rink: Trish, Kaytlyn Smith (Edge Hill), and Louise Hoskins (South Johnstone) — who had just won a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Louise is an absolute legend, and seeing all three out there together was something special.

Edge Hill Ladies Classic – Weekend Wrap

Sixteen teams took part in the Edge Hill Ladies Classic over the weekend, battling through sunny, hot and windy conditions. The “challenging” Edge Hill green kept everyone honest, and some a little dismayed because they swear they were robbed. It all added to the fun and challenges of this year's EHBC Classic.

After five rounds, the placings were:

1st – Cathy Barry, Pauline Kriesl, Carmel De Zen, Terry McAlary
A consistent performance across all rounds, 5/5 wins — well‑earned champions.

2nd – Hazel McWhirter, Bronwyn Andreatta, Jean Smith, Cornelia Smith

3rd – Joy Baird, Narelle Johnson, Liz Backhouse, Kath O'Halloran

4th – Judy Jenner, Trish Spicer, Natasha Somerville/Kaytlyn Smith, Lisa Sanderling
