A quieter week at the club with the school holidays underway, and Cardiac Challenge wrapping up in Cooktown yesterday.

Regular junior training is taking a break, and with lots of our club members involved with Cardiac, we’ll keep things simple this week with Track Racing on Wednesday night.

Then on Saturday, it’s all hands on deck for our Club Working Bee as we get Smith Park ready for Cairns Cup on Wheels.

We’re very lucky to have one of the best club facilities around, and a committed bunch of members who keep Smith Park looking great throughout the year.

But with the Cairns Cup on Wheels just around the corner, it’s time to get the place looking its best!

Our Club Working Bee is this Saturday, and we’d love everyone who enjoys using the track and clubhouse to come along and lend a hand.

There’ll be plenty to tackle, including pressure washing, gardening, w**d spraying, fence and screening work, rubbish collection and general maintenance.

WHEN | Saturday 26 September, 8.30am–12pm
WEAR | Appropriate PPE
BRING | Tools, mowers, whipper snippers, w**d sprayers, pressure washers or anything else useful you have at home.

Even if you can only spare an hour, it all helps.

National Championships podium for Michael McGoldrick 🥉

A huge congratulations to Michael McGoldrick, who has come away from the 2026 AusCycling Junior & Masters Road National Championships on the Sunshine Coast with bronze in the Men Masters 1 Road Race.

A late course change meant 18 laps of a technical circuit, including a whopping 54 hairpin corners across the race. Michael put in a fantastic ride to finish third in a very competitive Masters 1 field.

It capped off a great Nationals across all three events:
🥉 Road Race – 3rd
⏱️ Individual Time Trial – 4th
🏁 Criterium – 5th

NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN

Three days of racing are coming up over the King’s Birthday long weekend, 2-4 October.

This year’s Cairns Cup on Wheels will include racing for both road bikes and track bikes on Friday night, followed by another big night of track racing on Saturday.

The weekend finishes with the King’s Birthday Criterium at Bungalow on Sunday morning.

Entry options are available for individual events or the full weekend, across senior and junior grades. Friday’s road bike program will also include a dedicated women’s grade.

❄🏆 THE COOLEST WINNER OF THE SERIES 🏆❄

Across the three races in the Elements Air & Refrigeration Winter Crit Series, riders earned two entries for each race, and volunteers earned three entries each time they helped out.

After Race 3, series sponsor Paul Allen drew the lucky winner…

Congratulations to Kyal Velonius, who won a Mitsubishi Electric 564L French Door Fridge valued at $3,099! 🎉

Thankfully, Kyal didn’t have to ride home from the crit with it.

We know a certain Commissaire and track rider was bitterly disappointed, having already earmarked it as his new VB storage solution 🍺

🏁 Elements Air & Refrigeration Winter Criterium Series wrapped!

Race 3 took us back to Bungalow on 23 August, with unbeatable winter weather, a great atmosphere and some fantastic racing.

It was especially good to see some new faces joining the grades and riders lining up for their first-ever crit race.

After three races across Smith Park Velodrome and the Bungalow circuit, congratulations to our overall series winners.

Motorpacing is off tonight. Damp track and issues with the lights have hampered us again.
