The hardest part of motherhood isn’t the exhaustion. It’s not the mess. It’s not the noise. It’s not the touched-out feeling or the mental load that never stops running. The hardest part is that you’re falling in love with someone who’s already leaving. Every version of them — the newborn curled on your chest, the toddler with the messy cheeks, the little voice calling “mama” down the hall — they all disappear. Quietly. Without warning. Replaced by someone new you’ll love just as much. And you never get to say goodbye. One day you’ll pick her up. And you won’t know it’s the last time until it already was. So tonight, even though you’re exhausted... Even though you haven’t eaten since noon. Even though you locked yourself in the bathroom just to breathe. Hold them a little longer. The days are long.
