You’ve probably seen the headlines… but El Niño isn’t something new—it’s a natural part of Earth’s climate system. The challenge is that, when combined with our warming climate, these events can place additional stress on coral reefs and the incredible marine life that depends on them.
Swipe through to learn:
🪸 What El Niño and La Niña actually are
🐠 How changing ocean conditions can affect reef ecosystems
💙 The practical ways we can all help improve reef resilience
While we can’t stop El Niño from occurring, we can reduce the other pressures our reefs face. Every action—from supporting reef conservation and responsible tourism to participating in citizen science—helps give coral reefs the best chance to thrive.
The Great Barrier Reef has endured natural climate cycles for thousands of years. By protecting it from the pressures we can control, we’re helping it remain resilient for generations to come 🌏
