JT aka The Godfather/The Boss
Fifita aka The Underboss
They started a revolution that has now created a legacy
Tonga's captain and favourite son Jason Taumalolo changed the international rugby league landscape prior to the 2017 World Cup when he elected to represent Tonga over New Zealand.
___
The team has stolen the hearts of every football fan to the point where, as an Australian I actually wasn't too upset that we lost.
___
Taumalolo copped heavy critism for his decision at the time where his club captain Johnathan Thurston was forced to publicly support him.
___
13 of their current top 21 players have represented another country or played State of Origin. Majority of these players could still represent a tier-one nation tomorrow if they chose.
___
Despite this, they are showing the ultimate sign of loyalty to their small island nation.
___
Andrew Fifita also deserves a ton of credit. He was the second man just days after Taumalolo to defect from a tier-one side to represent his heritage.
___
They have played a combined 16 Test matches for Tonga, which means they have sacrificed just shy of half-a-million dollars in match payments ($480K.)
___
Sometimes there is things that money just can't buy, such as the pride and love of all Tongan fans who love the pair dearly.
___
Their recent victory over the Australian Kangaroos has left their side in the best possible place. They are currently ranked fourth in the world, however they have defeated all three nations ranked ahead of them.
___
The 2021 World Cup is shaping up to be the most even in the history of rugby league. In my opinion, it's all thanks to the "Godfather" Jason Taumalolo who began this Tongan revolution. πΉπ΄πΉπ΄πΉπ΄
