We remain open over the holiday period ready for you to work off the Christmas cheer, try out those new Christmas presents or just to have an escape and meditation away from the chaos that this period can be.

I’ve just been reflecting this past week and wanted to share on this page. I’ve just returned from competing in Victoria with both the show horse team and some other dressage competitors. These events were large national and state titles that involved lots of atmosphere and lots of dressed up arena decorations and crowds.

In the past for these events our Tasmanian horses have struggled heading into these atmospheres with limited exposure. This did contribute to pushing us forward in creating somewhere like CVEC, and im sure there was similar motivation for Longford, Woodend etc. I have to say I was super impressed by all of the horses in the team this year and how well the horses (and riders) were able to just focus on their ride. I saw some super workouts, including what looked like some personal bests. I just wanted to congratulate everyone on doing so well 👏. It was obviously pretty tame environment for us now without someone running around in an inflatable costume which is pretty typical at ETAS Showhorse training days 😉🤣 It really is lovely to see one of the initial intentions of CVEC paying off 🥰. I hope everyone else had fun!

Due to works going on, CVEC will be closed during the day from Tuesday through to Thursday. For those attending a pre scheduled vet booking, the stables are still open.

If I’m alerted that these works finish earlier, I will reopen for bookings. However due to the nature of where people need to be, there is to be no riding during this time.

For all of those that are flooded out and looking for options while the indoor is either in use or needing a cheaper altertative. Just a reminder that the outdoor arena at CVEC is also an ebb and flow surface and has already drained to leave a firm surface underfoot.

CVEC yards, stables and bedrooms are available if you are required to evacuate. Just please let me know who what and when via pm or phone if required.

I just want to advise that I have taken advantage of the still evening and broadleaf spray has been applied to all grass areas. Please keep horses in their yards or tied to the float and keep to your hay and feed only. There is a 14 day withholding period, so no hand grazing of horses within this time. There are NO ‘safe patches’. All grass areas have been sprayed.
No spray has been applied around the yards so these are safe.

Part 2 - trot vs canter

Part 2: Effective lumbar-sacral flexion & extension is incredibly important in the horse's propulsion capabilities & for BREATHING 🫁 effectively at the faster paces 🏇 As the horse flexes the spine & pelvis, organs of the abdomen are pistoned forward into the diaphragm, mechanically forcing air out from the lungs. As the horse propels forward, the thorax expands, allowing the lungs to expand and take in air (up to 80L at full gallop!) 🤯 This is known as respiratory-locomotive coupling and is why you'll often hear horses breathing once per stride Does your horse hold it's breath? Investigation into the function of their spinal & pelvis may be useful. Always make time to walk to warm up your horse effectively ✨️ The walk provides a greater lateral movement of the spine & pelvis and takes the joints and tissues through a greater range of motion ↔️ This helps to prepare them and the surrounding muscles for the faster gaits 💪 It's also a great way to cool down, allowing the joints of the spine and pelvis to again mobilise after work 🧘‍♀️ Do you incorporate walking?
