Kobe took the win — and moved up a weight division to get the match. That says everything.

But every one of these boys wrapped their hands, warmed up, and walked out in front of a crowd. Anyone who’s done it knows what that costs.

Yesterday three of our young fighters stepped into the ring at Amateur Muay Thai Victoria — Huy, Andy and Kobe.

Kobe took the win, and he earned it the hard way: he moved up a weight division just to get the match. That’s the kind of decision that says much about a fighter.

But we want to be clear about something. Huy and Andy walked out there in front of a crowd and gave everything they had. Anyone who has ever stood in that ring knows what it costs to do that, win or lose. Every one of these kids got their hand wrapped, warmed up, and answered the bell. That’s the part that builds them.

Results come and go. Courage compounds.

Huge respect to the parents who got them there, to our coach in the corner, and to all three of our boys. We couldn’t be prouder.

Nearly 44 years old. Nine kilos cut. Three rounds. One more hand raised.

There's a version of this story that's just about age, and it misses the point. Gen didn't win last night despite the years — he won because of them. Every round he's ever fought was in the ring with him: the timing, the calm, the reading of a man half his age and knowing exactly when to move.

Michael Lamrock — respect. You came to fight, and you made it a fight. That's what gave the night its weight.

To everyone who packed the Melbourne Pavilion, and everyone who watched from home — you were heard. To every set of pads held, every round of clinch, every early morning nobody saw: this was your win too. A fighter never walks out alone.

And thank you, PowerPlay, for putting a veteran on your card. Plenty of promotions only look for what's new. Muay Thai has always known better.
