Floor to ceiling - Double end bag
Although every bag and piece of equipment has a unique purpose, I’ve always felt the floor to ceiling bag is the most demanding and therefore, the most beneficial. When used correctly, it forces the action, keeps you thinking about offense and defensive maneuvers and in general, requires a high level of focus.
Add some angles with footwork and this piece of equipment will expose you.
It’s hard.
It requires focus.
It’s frustrating.
It’s great!
Close quarter boxing may also be know as “infighting” and is a true skill. Many boxers can work quite happily at long and mid-range, but close quarter work provides higher risks and is generally more physically and mentally demanding.
Real head to head battle and not for the faint hearted!
Mid range may be defined as the zone from the length of an extended arm (the jab) to the point at which a mid-range left or right hook would land. Any mid-range ones & twos, hooks & uppercuts are by definition moving into the zone of true power shots.
In this video I’m demonstrating mid-range using a stronger platform of footwork, whilst keeping the bag inside my feet and focusing on a wider range of shot selection to both the front and side of the head and body. Punching volume has increased, head movement is constant whilst my stance has become wider and my posture smaller.
Toe to toe 🥊
Long range is the first zone when within punching range. Simply speaking, long range is where we can unleash any of our long range offense. Being at long range should not be overlooked as it’s in fact the “bread & butter” of a boxers repertoire as very often the majority of shots exchanged are at long range. Long range punching can have the effect of “softening up” your target prior to unleashing the mid to close quarter offense.
Here I’m demonstrating long rage with minimal footwork whilst focusing on controlling the bag with accuracy and timing.
