We're reopening!

From 9:00am tomorrow (Saturday 3/7/2021) we will be reopening our doors.

In line with the updated restrictions announced by the State Government, we will be opening under a 20-patron limit at any given time. This will be the case until best case 12:01am Tuesday the 6th of July 2021. Until then, we ask that you endeavour to avoid peak times where possible until this capacity restriction is removed. If you arrive at the gym while we are at capacity, you can either wait for others to leave or return at a later time.

We will be working hard to ensure our environment is as safe as possible for both our members and staff, and with that we remind you of a few important rules and conditions of entry, as well as reintroduce some previous ones:

🔸 No mask, no entry. Masks must be worn at all times in accordance with the State Government's guidelines;
🔹 No towel, no entry;
🔸 All members must check in with the SafeWA app via QR codes that can be found throughout the gym;
🔹 Your towel must be with you at all times and used during your workout (i.e. placed over a bench or equipment seat while you are using it);
🔸You must sanitize your hands upon entry to the gym. Sanitizing stations will be available around the gym floor for use when needed;
🔹 You must wipe down equipment after use with the sanitary wipes provided around the gym;
🔸 You must follow physical/social distancing measures to the best of your ability; and
🔹If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone who has arrived from overseas in the last 14 days, please do not attend the gym until you have been advised that it is safe to do so.

These rules are in place to help ensure the health and safety of our members and staff. We ask that you all do your part to help keep the DIY Fitness community safe and well.

If you are not yet ready to attend the gym, please reach out to us via email or phone call during our staffed hours to arrange an additional suspension.

If you have any further questions that have yet to be answered, please do not hesitate to send us a message, email or give us a call!
Your patience with us while all this has been worked out is greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you all in the gym from tomorrow!

*GYM CLOSURE*

As you may have heard already, Perth will be entering a four-day lockdown effective from 12:01am Tuesday 29/6/2021.

With this being the case, we will be closing the gym from then until, best case, the morning of Saturday 3/7/21. This is in accordance with the restrictions put in place for this period by the State Government.

We will be providing updates as they become available regarding our reopening. Members will receive emails hopefully answering any questions they may have.

We thank you for your patience and support during this trying time and hope you all stay safe!

- DIY Fitness Management

IMPORTANT: Following the detection of another local case in Perth’s northern suburbs, Perth and Peel will enter a circuit-breaker lockdown for a minimum of four days from midnight tonight.

Tonight’s new positive case is a man in his 30s - he worked at the Indian Ocean Brewery – and he had a meal at the brewery on the same night as the original case on the evening of Tuesday 22 June.

Once again, it only involved fleeting contact with the original case.

Tonight we also had genomic sequencing confirm that the original case, who had visited Sydney, is now confirmed as carrying the Delta variant, the same variant from the Sydney outbreak.

That is why, based on advice from the Chief Health Officer, effective from midnight tonight, Perth and Peel will enter a full lockdown for four days, at a minimum.

We will continue to review the situation, based on testing numbers and information from our contact tracing team, and provide updates when we can.

We hope this will be a circuit-breaker which will give our testers and contact tracers time to nail down a truer picture of how far this latest outbreak has spread.

We are worried this new variant can linger in the community and can transmit between people very easily.

So please, I ask everyone, to do the right thing here and follow the health advice and instructions we are putting in place.

Effective midnight tonight:

People will be required to stay at home unless they need to:
- work because they can’t work from home or remotely – a full list of essential workers and services will be available on www.wa.gov.au as soon as possible;
- shop for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies;
- attend to medical or health care needs including emergencies, compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable;
- be vaccinated; and
- exercise with a maximum of two adults from the same household (children under 18 years are not counted), limited to one hour per day within a 5km radius from home, and masks must be worn, except for vigorous exercise.

The following restrictions apply for the lockdown period:

People can enter the Perth and Peel areas only to access or deliver essential health and emergency services and other essential requirements.

Restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars to provide takeaway service only.

Casinos, nightclubs, entertainment venues and public venues to close.

Universities, TAFEs and training colleges to close.

Beauty, nail and hair services to close.

Retail is permitted but only for essential health services and essential goods such as supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol station, hardware and others. Non-essential retail restricted to click-and-collect or delivery only.

Public venues such as swimming pools, recreation centres, playgrounds and skateparks to close.

Fitness venues including private exercise venues, gyms, pilates, yoga, dance studios to close

Places of worship and cultural institutions to close.

Community sport is not permitted.

Private outdoor gatherings are not permitted and events and functions are not permitted.

Weddings are restricted to five people for compassionate reasons only, and funerals are restricted to 10 people.

No visitors will be allowed in homes, unless it is for essential services, critical maintenance, caregiving and compassionate reasons or an emergency.

Travel outside the Perth and Peel region is not permitted unless you are exempt to obtain or provide essential goods or services or other compassionate and medical reasons.

Schools, boarding schools and childcare centres in the Perth and Peel regions will remain open, except for the three schools that have been directly impacted as they are a listed exposure site.

Unless exempt, people in Perth and Peel are required to wear masks outside of the home, in all indoor settings, on public transport, and outdoors at all times – except for vigorous exercise.

Anyone who has travelled outside of the Perth and Peel regions since Sunday must continue to wear face masks in public, as per the existing directions.

Visits to aged/disability care are prohibited except for essential care, compassionate reasons, end of life and advocacy.

Visits to hospitals are prohibited except for compassionate reasons (eg. end of life, accompanying a child, supporting partner giving birth). Priority 2 and 3 elective surgeries will be postponed.

All these restrictions come into force from midnight tonight.

We want everyone to follow the advice, do the right thing, and when in doubt – use common sense.

I know today’s developments are deflating.

But we can take comfort in the fact we have acted quickly.

We introduced restrictions, including mandatory mask requirements which will hopefully have helped minimise any spread.

Western Australia, you have done it before.

You’ve listened to the health advice and come together to keep each other safe, and to keep our state strong.

Now is the time to do it again.

It’s time to prove to the rest of Australia – and the world – what can be achieved when a community comes together.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE*

As many of you would be aware, restrictions have been applied by the State Government specifically relating to wearing masks in all indoor public spaces.

This means that when using the gym, members are required to wear a mask at all times before, during AND after their workouts while on our premises.

We ask that you all do the right thing by everyone around you and wear your masks, so we can again return to normal as soon as possible.

- The DIY Fitness Cannington Team

As part of restrictions introduced today following the detection of a local case of COVID-19, masks are mandatory in certain public settings for at least the next three days.

Specifically, masks are required in all indoor public places (including workplaces and on public transport) and in any outdoor settings where it isn’t possible to remain physically distanced from others.

The same exemptions to this apply as in previous instances where masks were required, with children in primary school or younger and people with certain disabilities.

Masks can be removed for seated patrons to eat and drink, and in certain other situations such as teachers presenting to a class.

These requirements also continue to apply to anyone who has been in the Perth and Peel from today while travelling to to any other part of the State.

Most importantly, please use common sense, and take a mask with you whenever you go out.

We’ve done this before, and we can do it again – let’s get through this WA.

Tonight I am able to announce the changes to restrictions which will occur at midnight tomorrow night, 12.01am Saturday 1 May, with the majority of interim restrictions set to lift immediately.

We know we can safely take these steps, in line with health advice, thanks to the outstanding efforts of the community and our contact tracing team.

Since Friday, over 50,000 tests have been conducted across WA, and contact tracers have identified and contacted 399 close contacts and 899 casual contacts.

Those are incredible numbers, and they can give us confidence that our efforts have paid off.

Some minor restrictions will need to remain in place for a further seven days – which will take us to the end of the incubation period of the virus from the last known case in the community.

Just to be clear – it is possible that we may record more local cases over the coming week - particularly from 399 people in the close contact group.

Each of these close contacts is required to complete 14 days of self-quarantine, and will be tested again before leaving.

The small risk of finding another case in the community is why some restrictions will remain for the time being.

But it is the measures that we have taken: our short, sharp lockdown, the interim restrictions and the contact tracing and testing, that have put us the position we are in now.

That position is one of being able to snap back to where we were, with very few restrictions.

So – as planned, our interim restrictions are set to end at midnight tomorrow night – that is 12.01am Saturday 1 May.

At this point, Perth and Peel will return to life as we knew it before lockdown, with a few restrictions to help keep us safe.

All things going well, and based on ongoing health advice, these few restrictions will only be in place for 7 days – coming to an end at 12.01am on Saturday 8 May.

These are the restrictions which will remain in place from 12:01am Saturday 1 May:

- Masks -

Firstly, based on health advice, we need to keep using masks – but we can relax the requirements for wearing them outdoors.

Masks will be mandatory for indoor public venues, including in the workplace and on public transport.

However, masks will only need to be worn outdoors where physical distancing is not possible. For example, at Optus Stadium, or at an outdoor fete.

The same exceptions apply, including for medical reasons and primary school aged children and younger.

Anyone who has been in the Perth or Peel regions since 17 April but has since travelled to another region must also continue to wear a mask subject to the above conditions.

If you leave your home, take your mask with you and, as always, use common sense.

- Other remaining restrictions –

A 30-person limit will apply in all homes for private gatherings. This is because masks are not required at home.

Nightclubs can open, but will be subject to the four square metre rule; with masks mandatory.

Indoor weddings and funerals will be permitted for up to 200 guests without requiring an exemption;

Patient visits are allowed with one personal visitor per day in hospital or aged/disability care; and

Major stadiums, including Optus Stadium, RAC Arena and HBF Park can operate at 75 per cent capacity.

---

These changes mean that all businesses and venues will be able to reopen, including those which were unable to open this week. In line with pre-lockdown conditions:

All elective surgeries are to resume.

Seated hospitality venues, including restaurants, cafés, food courts and bars that provide seated service only, can open at 75 per cent capacity or apply the 2sqm rule – whichever is greater. The casino and other hospitality venues can reopen under the 2sqm rule (excluding nightclubs, as above).

Gyms, fitness centres, dance studios, beauty salons, hairdressers can open with the two square metre rule in place. Indoor and outdoor community sport can resume with spectators.

Public venues, including, community centres, libraries, museums, galleries, recreation centres, can open with the two square metre rule in place.

Certain indoor and outdoor entertainment venues with fixed seating will be able to operate at 100 per cent capacity, this includes theatres, concert halls, cinemas, comedy lounges and performing arts centres. Places of worship can reopen to 100 per cent capacity.

For more information on these plans will be detailed on our website soon – at www.wa.gov.au

---

It is my hope – and my expectation – that from Saturday the 8th of May these relatively minor restrictions will be able to come off – and we completely return to where we were at before the lockdown.

I know wearing masks is annoying and frustrating for many people. But I just ask, that we keep following the health advice and, always, use common sense.

We just need to get through this next week to be sure the virus is not lingering in the community.

I also want to remind people to use the SafeWA app. It’s more important than ever that we all use SafeWA or sign in on a contact register, every single time we go to a public venue.

We need to ensure we keep doing this while the threat of the pandemic exists.

This has been an extremely disruptive week, and I expect the next week could be challenging for some people.

I encourage everyone to support local businesses as much as they can.

It will go a long way to help them recover from the events of the past week.

So far, it seems, WA will avoid a rolling, long-term lockdown or long-term severe restrictions – and that is a credit to every Western Australian.

Thank you, once again for your understanding and for listening to the advice, following the instructions and getting on with it – the true West Aussie way.
