Thank you to every player who gave their best, every coach who believed in their team, and every family who shared the journey.

This was our Grand Final Day. These were our moments. And this is our Blue Devils family.

💙 Forever a Blue Devil — Tristian “Buddy” Smith 💙

17 August 1968 – 2 October 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend, long-serving coach and much-loved member of the Blue Devils family, Tristian Smith.

Some people leave a lasting impression on a club, not because of the games they win or the years they serve, but because of the lives they touch. was one of those people.

If you needed him, he was there. It was that simple.

He gave so much of himself to our club, always willing to lend a hand, offer his time, or do whatever was needed. He never sought recognition. He just loved being part of the Blue Devils family.

But it was on the basketball court where his passion truly shone.

He loved coaching, and he had a special gift for bringing out the very best in the young ladies he mentored. He believed in his players, encouraged them, challenged them and helped them grow in confidence, both as basketballers and as young women.

For Tristian, coaching was about so much more than basketball. It was about the kids, the relationships and making a difference.

And he certainly made a difference.

Our club has lost more than a coach. We've lost a loyal friend, a familiar face around the courts, and someone who was always there when we needed him.

To his cherished partner Dianne, his children Kristen, Nickolas and Ashlee, and the entire Smith family, we extend our deepest condolences and love. Thank you for sharing with us for so many years.

Tristian, thank you for everything. For every training session, every game, every encouraging word, and every moment you gave to our club.

You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the countless young lives you helped shape.

Once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil. 💙🏀

Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests anonymous donations in Tristian's memory to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation. Donation details will be available at the service.
