IMPORTANT UPDATE – UNDER 10’S BASKETBALL SIZE CHANGE

Gold Coast Basketball wishes to advise all clubs, coaches, players and families that from Round 1 of the Summer 2026/27 season, all Under 10 competitions will transition from a Size 4 to a Size 5 basketball.

This decision has been made following consideration of FIBA’s recommended basketball sizing guidelines for younger age groups, along with the increasing difficulty in sourcing suitable Size 4 basketballs.

In particular, the availability of good-quality leather Size 4 basketballs has become extremely limited, making it challenging to maintain a consistent standard of equipment across our competitions.

Moving to a Size 5 basketball will provide greater consistency, improve equipment availability and support the ongoing development of our junior players.

We understand that some players may require a short adjustment period, particularly those who have been training and competing with a Size 4 basketball.

What does this mean for teams?

✅ All Under 10 competition games will use a Size 5 basketball from Round 1 onwards.

✅ Clubs and coaches are encouraged to introduce Size 5 basketballs into training sessions to help players adjust.

✅ This change applies to all Under 10 divisions across the competition.

We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our basketball community as we implement this change.

FAREWELL MARK BRADTKE

Gold Coast Basketball would like to thank our Basketball Development Manager, Mark Bradtke, for his contribution to the association over the past two years.

Mark will be moving on to pursue other coaching opportunities, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his basketball journey.

During his time with Gold Coast Basketball, Mark has been passionate about the development of our players and the growth of basketball across the Gold Coast. He would particularly like to acknowledge and thank our coaches, who generously sacrifice their time, energy and knowledge to help develop the next generation of Gold Coast basketballers.

The commitment of our coaching community plays a vital role in creating opportunities for young players to learn, improve and enjoy the game, and Mark is incredibly appreciative of the work they do.

While Mark may be moving on from his role, he will continue to follow the progress of our senior and junior teams and support the ongoing growth of Gold Coast Basketball.

Thank you, Mark, for your contribution over the past two years. We wish you all the very best in your future coaching endeavours!
