17 years of coaching people over 45. Here are the 3 things Iâd never change about how we do it.
1. Strength comes first.âšNot cardio, not âtoningâ, not whateverâs trending. Strength is what keeps you climbing stairs, carrying shopping and getting off the floor without help for the next 30 years. Everything else gets easier once youâre strong.
2. Small groups, with eyes on every rep.âšWe could fit more people in a session. We wonât. At this stage of life, good coaching isnât a luxury. Itâs what keeps you safe and keeps you progressing. You should be coached, not just supervised.
3. The long game, every time.âšIâd rather you train twice a week for ten years than five times a week for ten weeks. Quick fixes are easy to sell, but they donât stick. Routine, good people around you and steady progress do.
When Sue walked in, sheâd been told not to strength train because of her back and her knees. She was 57, and she didnât want that to be her story. So we started where she was. We built the movement first, added load slowly, and stayed patient.
Two weeks ago, she deadlifted twice her bodyweight.
Her back and knees were never the problem. Nobody had ever coached her properly.
If youâve been told to take it easy, or youâve tried before and it didnât stick, our 21-Day Kickstart is where most of our members started.
