2026 Queensland International Open Results 19 September 2026
12 Budokan athletes competed in 21 divisions winning 17 medals at the 2026 Queensland International Open competition, the final National Event Series competition for the year. The tally was:
9 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
We also had 1 athlete competing in Adaptive Men.
This is really an amazing result for such a small group. We had a number of athletes unable to participate this year with injuries and Year 12 academic commitments; you were all missed and we wish you well for your injury recoveries and exam preparations.
The results of our 13 athletes meant that Budokan was ranked the second highest of all participating clubs in the competition, second only to local club Ohori. Our results meant that 81% (4 out of 5) of divisions entered resulted in a medal and 43% (2 out of 5) of divisions entered resulted in a Gold. Coaches were Rob, Kerrye and Nathan who were kept quite busy managing 4 mats.
As is traditional, the Budokan travelling circus also enjoyed a nice family dinner at the local Sports club. Individual results follow:
9 Gold Medals: Abbey Cook x 3 (Cadet, Junior Women, Senior Women), Nikola Dobric (Junior Men), Lochlan Cook (Cadet Men), Alice Lee (U/15 Girls), Tugs-erdene Turtogt (U/15 Boys), Milica Dobric (U/15 Girls), Aleks Dobric (U/13 Boys)
4 Silver Medals: Lochlan Cook (Senior Men), Josie Henderson (U/15 Girls), Kento Asano x 2 (Cadet Men, Junior Men)
4 Bronze Medals: Lochlan Cook (Junior Men), Alice Lee (Cadet Women), Eric Jang (Junior Men), Alex Lee (Cadet Men)
2 x 5th Place: Eric Jang (Senior Men), Alex Lee (Junior Men)
1 x 7th Place: Aaron Jones (Senior Men)
Participated: Kento Asano (Senior Men), Bernhard Tandean (Adaptive Men)
2026 National Schools Championships Results 20 September 2026
Over the same weekend, JA and Judo Queensland ran the 2026 National Schools Championships with Hills Sports High making its debut representation with 4 Budokan athletes (Lochlan, Abbey, Alice and Tugs) as part of the school’s Talented Sports Program under Nathan’s program guidance. We also had representation from Xavier College (Nikola and Milica), Carlingford High (Kento), St.Paul’s Grammar (Josie) and Kumgok High (Alex).
Another great result for the club with the Hills Sports High winning the medal standings and Xavier College coming in 3rd.
In terms of club standings, Budokan came in second with 5 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze against winner Ohori (5, 4, 1) and U Champ (5, 3, 2), again a great result with such a small group.
Budokan’s 9 athletes entered 11 divisions winning 11 medals:
5 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze
Individual results follow:
5 Gold Medals: Lochlan Cook (Junior Men), Abbey Cook (Junior Women), Alice Lee (Young Women), Milica Dobric (Young Women, U/15 Girls)
2 Silver Medal: Kento Asano (Young Men), Alice Lee (U/15 Girls)
4 Bronze Medals: Alex Lee (Young Men), Tugs-erdene Turtogt (U/15 Boys), Josie Henderson (U/15 Girls), Aleks Dobric (U/15 Boys)
