Term 3 Jets begins on Monday 13th July.
Sign-up form will be in the comments box soon.
Weeks 1 and 2 start at 5.30pm are to be Rollers at Murarrie, Weeks 3 - 10 start at 5pm at AMV. Rollers are because Jets has a long history of rollers sessions and as the access to the AMV is a challenge with the BMX World Championships, which will be great to watch.
Why do we practice rollers?
Suplesse. This is a French word. If you can pedal better than your opponents you use fewer watts for the same speed. This is very helpful because then you can use more watts later in the race when your opponent has run out.
If I am already very good do I need to come?
Harrie Lavreyson recently posted online a high cadence session, and he is doing Japanese Keirin where they will have done rollers session as part of the preparation. So Harrie would say yes, and the QAS Sprint coach is sending 2 riders to join us.
Can I do the session my coach set me instead of joining in with the group?
No, as it works so much better as one crew. In one part of the room of a previous rollers session we had the Oceania Scratch Champion, a Team Sprint National Champion, a Cyclocross National Champion, an Australian Elite Team Sprint rider and a former UAE Dev squad rider so these sessions work for a wide range of riders.
Will this be a proper decent workout?
Yes, absolutely. This is a training session.
Will the music be good?
Yes. Week 1 is likely to be a collection of old-skool 90s clubland classics, with bubbling basslines, euphoric garage, and ambient trance warm-ups, and probably no Rick Astley, but you never know.
I’ve never ridden rollers. Is that OK?
Yes. This is where we learn.
What will I leave with after the sessions?
You will be better at pedalling, you will have a long and short warm up, which is expected at National Champs and should be something you have absolutely locked in, and you’ll be better at starting and stopping without holding on to a post or a parent, as that gives you so many more options at cycling events.
Road bike as it is winter?
You choose what bike, but a road bike does have a drinks holder, which is useful. But no mountain bikes or it sounds like a machine gun and the coach (and Cameron Douglas Savage) are in pain until the middle of the next day.
What else do I bring?
Water, a towel, and a battery powered fan is an excellent addition to your kit if you don’t have one, especially as there is no power outlet there.
