Was great to continue building our internal resources by getting another Winch operator checked out so we can get the BFRs, AEFs and more Ab-Initio flying done.

BACK RELEASE SZD-48 JANTAR

Testing the back release on all gliders is a must when winch launching.

Normal operations at the top of launch when releasing, is by allowing the back release to do its job.
Only will the release handle be pulled when the pilot wants to deliberately disconnect from the launch.

T is for TRIM

Ever wondered how the trim works on a SZD-51 Junior? You cant see it until the seat pan is removed.

Gliders can have different types of trims installed, some have an aerodynamic trim on the elevator or some have a spring that changes tension on the yoke.

RANGA GLIDING SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE

Applications for the Royal Australian Navy Gliding Association (RANGA) Scholarship close on 30 June 2026.

The scholarship provides up to $1,500 towards gliding training and Gliding Australia membership costs, helping one aspiring pilot take their first steps into the world of soaring.

The scholarship is open to applicants of any age who are new to aviation and have not flown solo in any aviation discipline.

If you've ever thought about learning to fly - or know someone who has, this is a fantastic opportunity to get started. Applications include a short submission explaining why gliding is important to your future and what you hope to achieve through the sport.
