🥋 Congratulations to all our Goju Kai Karate Bayside students — kids and adults — who graded today! 🌟
Your dedication, spirit, and perseverance truly embodied the Goju Kai values. Every kata, every technique, and every moment of focus showed just how far you’ve come. We are incredibly proud of each student who stepped up and gave their best. 👏
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Goju Kai Karate Bayside instructors for your commitment, patience, and passion. Your guidance not only strengthens our students’ skills, but also builds confidence, discipline, and character throughout our Bayside community. 🙏
Well done to everyone — let’s continue growing together and honouring the Goju Kai way! 💪🔥

Great Senior's class on Tuesday this week. Gary Sensei took us through our paces with a high intensity warm up, followed by Yonhon Kumite (pre-arranged sequence), Sepai Kata and then Saifa Bunkai to help those going for grading on Sunday.
Training at Goju Kai Bayside is at 10/47-49 Grange Rd Cheltenham (opposite Moorabbin DFO). Training is on Tues, Wed and Thurs evenings and Saturday mornings. Come along and learn traditional Japanese Karate.

With grading time approaching, the senior instructors undertook a formal pre-grading assessment to see who is ready and who needs work.

QOW301 - “The bridge between knowledge and skill is practice. The bridge between skill and Mastery is Time.” - Unknown
If you're not putting in the work, it's not about bad luck or being overlooked. It's about the hours you didn’t train. Karate is honest like that. You can't skip kihon, avoid kata, or zone out during kumite and then wonder why you're not improving.
Think about the last belt test you watched. Who stood out? Was it the person with flashy moves, or the one who showed clean basics and focus? Progress doesn't come from wanting it, it comes from doing the work when no one’s watching.
Have you ever said you want to get better at sparring, but then skipped conditioning drills? Do you wish your kata looked sharper, but haven’t reviewed it outside of class?
Karate gives you what you put into it. So next time you catch yourself frustrated, ask: am I really working for what I want, or just hoping it shows up? Put in the reps. Stay consistent. You’ll earn what you train for.

Getting one's black belt is like getting a drivers licence. That is when you really start learing.
