START THEM YOUNG 🍎
There’s a big myth out there: “Resistance training is dangerous for kids.”
The reality? When coached properly, it’s one of the safest and most effective ways to help young athletes become fitter, stronger and more confident.
Many parents respond by simply adding more sport — but sport alone can be unpredictable, and overuse or accidental injuries can happen.
The Australian Strength & Conditioning Association recommends kids as young as 6 begin learning bodyweight movements and basic strength skills with light implements like broomsticks.
Adding structured strength training into a young athlete’s week can improve coordination, confidence and movement quality in the positions their sport demands most.
At Inner Athlete, we also see young athletes develop motivation, communication and independence through consistent coaching and support.
If you’re a parent of a youth athlete, investing in professional strength & conditioning early can help build lifelong confidence, fitness and resilience.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PARTNERS AT INNER ATHLETE
Our Youth Development Education partner .athlete shares insights into strength training for young footballers.
Strength training is often seen as lifting heavier weights or building muscle, but for youth athletes, it’s not that simple.
Done properly, it’s about improving coordination, movement efficiency and the ability to handle the physical demands of the game.
When combined with speed, movement and sport-specific training, it helps players perform consistently and reduces injury risk over time.
If you’re unsure what strength training should look like for your child, or how it fits into their overall development, it’s worth having a conversation.
Bentleigh Greens athletes receive 33% off the “Quick Start” trial, plus two free weeks when continuing with a membership.
