What a wonderful morning we had at The Valleys for Australiaโs Biggest Morning Tea on 26 May. With the support of our amazing community โ including six raffles on the day and generous online donations โ we raised a fantastic $1,106.90 for the Cancer Council ๐๏ธ

George recently took part in a Powerlifting Australia competition held in Hobart on the 9thโ10th of May, with more than 60 competitors across junior, open, and masters divisions.
Competing in the Masters 70โ74, 120kg division, George set his sights on the Australian record of 397kg a number he had already surpassed in training. The competition required three attempts each in the bench press, squat, and deadlift, with the best lift from each contributing to the final total.
Even as a firstโtime competitor with no formal coaching, George delivered an outstanding performance. With three judges assessing every technical lift, two of his best bench press attempts were unfortunately ruled as foulsโone for failing to rack the bar on cue and the other for not pausing long enough at the bottomโdenying him the chance to break the record. Despite this setback, he still achieved a remarkable 380kg total, securing 1st place in his division and earning a spot at the Oceania Championships in Melbourne this September.
George began his strength journey right here at Valleys through the Strength for Life program after retiring. Over time, he discovered his natural ability to lift heavier loads and gradually shifted his training toward powerlifting. After returning from a year overseas last June, he committed to structured strength training three times a week, increasing load and sets while reducing reps.
This competition has taught George a lot and motivated him even further. Weโre incredibly proud of his dedication and achievements.
