ποΈ Remembering Sef β A True Champion of Our Sport ππ
Some people leave a lasting mark on our sport, not because they stood on the podium, but because they were always there for those who did.
The UWA Athletics Club community is deeply saddened to hear of Sefβs passing.
For as long as many of us can remember, Sef was a familiar and reassuring face at almost every track meet. No matter the weather, she would be there, sitting at the finish line, stopwatch in hand, meticulously hand-timing our races and providing that all-important backup to the electronic timing.
As a club, we have so many wonderful memories of Sef. Generations of our athletes will remember crossing the finish line, looking over at Sef and receiving that little nod or smile that told them they had just run a personal best. Sometimes she knew before we did!
It was those small moments, her quiet encouragement and genuine interest in every athlete, that made her so special to so many of us.
Sef was one of those extraordinary volunteers who quietly gave so much of herself to our sport, year after year, decade after decade, never seeking recognition or expecting anything in return. She simply loved athletics and the people who were part of it.
At UWA Athletics Club, we know that volunteers are the backbone of our sport, and Sef was truly one of the very best. Her dedication, kindness and unwavering commitment touched countless athletes, coaches, officials and clubs across Western Australia.
Athletics in Western Australia would not be what it is today without people like Sef.
Thank you, Sef, for the countless hours, the encouragement, the smiles and, of course, all those PBs you helped us celebrate.
You were truly one of a kind, and while you will be greatly missed, the memories we share and the contribution you made to our athletics community will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Sef. ππ
From all of us at UWA Athletics Club.
