🏆 HandiCup Champions Crowned
After 55 matches, 32 pairs, and one full day of handicap doubles chaos, our 6th annual HandiCup has come to an end.
A huge congratulations to our 2026 HandiCup Champions:
🏆 Ben Davies & Greg McMurray
And congratulations to our runners-up:
🥈 John Barker & John Hockhart
To come out on top in this event, especially with -8 Handicap, takes more than just good tennis. The HandiCup rewards consistency, composure, smart shot selection, and the ability to adapt when the scoreboard, the handicap, or the match situation is not exactly going your way.
That is what makes this event so unique.
Every pair has a chance.
Every point matters.
And every match asks players to find a way.
This year’s event was also one of the best representations of RLTA we have seen, with entries from across Monday night fixtures, Thursday night fixtures, Friday night fixtures, Saturday fixtures, and every eligible junior fixture division.
It was a proper snapshot of our club: juniors, adults, social players, fixture players, coaches, volunteers, families, and supporters all coming together for one special event.
Thank you to everyone who played, supported, volunteered, cooked, organised, spectated, and helped make the day another great success.
There can only ever be one winning pair out of 32, and this year Ben and Greg found a way.
Congratulations again to our champions, our runners-up, and everyone who made the 6th annual HandiCup another fantastic RLTA event.
🎾 Play together. Compete together. Community forever.

🏆 In just under 24 hours, our next HandiCup champions will be crowned.
The draw is full.
The pairings are locked in.
The handicaps are ready to cause chaos.
So the big questions are…
Who will handle the pressure?
Who can stay consistent?
And who will invent a new dance move while returning a serve?
With 32 pairs taking the court, this is not just about who looks strongest on paper because let's face it, that paper is probably getting ripped up by lunchtime.
That is the beauty of the HandiCup.
Coaches can fall.
Juniors can rise.
Big hitters can panic.
And anyone can use the frame of their racquet to hit a mis-timed dropshotlob winner.
Bring the tennis.
Bring the spirit.
Because absolutely anyone can win this event.

🎾 RLTA’S HANDICUP IS BACK 🎾 Who’s lifting the trophy this year? 🏆
The tournament where rankings, reputations, and “favourites” mean absolutely nothing.
One day.
One partner.
One shot at taking home the trophy.
🔥 The beauty of the Handicup?
ANYONE can win.
Juniors can take down seasoned veterans.
Underdogs become champions.
Every point matters.

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums, grandmothers, carers, and mother figures in our tennis community! 🌸
Today we celebrate the women who not only support our club off the court, but also lead by example on it. 🎾💚
From cheering on the sidelines and organising busy schedules, to competing with determination, sportsmanship, and resilience — so many of our players grow up watching the amazing women in our club show what it means to be part of a team, handle challenges with grace, and play the game the right way.
Thank you for everything you do to help make our club such a welcoming, supportive, and passionate community.
We hope your day is filled with love, laughter, and maybe even a well-earned break from tennis duties! ☕🌷
From all of us at Redlands Lawn Tennis Association — Happy Mother’s Day! 💐

🔥 CHANGE YOUR DOUBLES MINDSET 🔥
Getting passed down the alley… and people snicker?
Good. Let them.
Because here’s the truth most players don’t want to hear:
👉 If you’re never getting beat down the alley… you’re not doing your job.
That ball down the line?
That’s information. That’s pressure. That’s proof you’re on their radar.
It means:
You’re being active at the net
You’re forcing decisions
You’re making your opponents uncomfortable
And now?
🎯 It’s game on.
Welcome to the real battle — the cat-and-mouse of doubles.
The problem isn’t getting passed…
It’s the culture that shames players for actually playing the game properly.
So flip it:
💥 Getting beat down the alley = you’re engaged
💥 You’re testing your opponent
💥 You’re in the point, not hiding from it
Because the real shame?
👉 Standing there all match… and never being a factor.
Next time you get burned down the line… don’t drop your head.
Have a little smile.
You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. 🎾

No bacon brought home from the Home Hill Sugar Bowl this year… 🥓❌
…but gee we stacked up on bagels instead 🥯😂
Turns out winning isn’t everything—good mates, good laughs, and a few questionable shot selections still got a solid workout 🎾🍻
Huge thanks to our chief sponsor Hot Shot Fire Services for sticking with us through the highs, lows, and double faults 🔥
We’ll be back… and next time, we’re bringing the bacon. 💪
