2027 COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT | JOHN LOMAX & BEN HAIME

West Harbour Rugby is pleased to confirm the appointments of John Lomax and Ben Haime to our 3rd Grade and Grade Development coaching team for the 2027 season.

A familiar face at the Pirates, John Lomax will take on the role of Grade Development Coach & Men’s 3rd Grade Head Coach, while continuing as Grade Scrum Coach and overseeing the forwards and set piece.

John brings extensive experience and a strong connection to West Harbour, having previously served as the club's Head of Rugby and Colts Coordinator. His leadership, technical knowledge and understanding of the club will be invaluable to our program.

Joining John is Ben Haime, appointed Grade Development Coach & Men’s 3rd Grade Assistant Coach.

Ben joins the Pirates following two seasons at Southern Districts, where he coached 2nd Grade Backs in 2025 before taking on the Head Coach role for 3rd and 4th Grade in 2026.

A Rugby Australia Level 2 accredited coach, Ben has completed the IRANZ Advanced Coaching Course and is currently involved in NSW Rugby's pathways programs, alongside an Analyst Internship with the NSW Waratahs through his studies at ACPE.

A former Australian Army serviceman, Ben was also a recipient of the 2025 Cook Award for Rugby Union Volunteer of the Year, recognising his contribution to the game.

These appointments reflect our commitment to lifting standards, strengthening player development and creating greater alignment across our Grade rugby program.

Together, John and Ben will play an important role in establishing consistent expectations, building accountability and strengthening the transition from Colts into senior Grade rugby.

We look forward to their leadership and contribution in 2027.

BALI 10s 2026 🏉

Yesterday our boys took part in the annual Bali 10s Rugby Tournament, held in Canggu, Bali.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside the organisers’ control, including changes to local regulations, the tournament was unable to proceed in its usual format.

Despite this, we still managed to get a couple of games in, coming away with two wins!

Game 1: West Harbour 10 def. Dusty Baa Baas (Melbourne) 5

Game 2: West Harbour 20 def. Bali Chilli’s / BOBs Combined 10

A fantastic experience for all the boys who travelled to Bali and a great opportunity to connect with the wider rugby community.

More importantly, we were extremely proud to take part in a special memorial honouring those who tragically lost their lives in the 2002 Bali bombings.

On 12 October 2002, 202 people lost their lives, including 27 members of the rugby community who had travelled to Bali for the annual Bali 10s tournament.

It was a privilege for our boys to be involved in the tribute and a reminder that rugby is so much more than just a game, bringing people together from all over the world.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible!
