⚾ AROUND THE BASES WITH COACH STEELE! ⚾
Some people coach a team, and some people become part of the very fabric of a club. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on a man who does both — Jamie “Steele” Steele!
With 20 years of coaching experience, including 10 years in baseball, Jamie is a true staple of Penrith Baseball Club. Whether he’s coaching, volunteering, lending a hand behind the scenes or stepping up wherever he’s needed, Jamie is one of those people who helps keep our club moving forward. He’s given his time to virtually every corner of the club, and his contribution goes far beyond the diamond!
And with his daughter Skylah and ‘the boss’ Stefanie inspiring him to get back into coaching, there’s an extra special reason behind his passion for helping the next generation fall in love with the game. ❤️⚾

🔹 What inspired you to become a coach?
“My kids, and my daughter Skylah this time! I’ve always loved being involved in sport and wanted to give something back to the game. Coaching is a great way to help kids grow, learn new skills, make lifelong friendships and, most importantly, have fun. Seeing a player improve, gain confidence and enjoy coming to the ballpark is one of the best parts of coaching.”
🔹 What leadership qualities do you try to demonstrate for your players?
“I try to lead by example and show respect, honesty, patience and encouragement. I want every player to feel welcome, supported and valued, no matter their ability. Baseball is about more than just winning; it’s about being a good teammate, working hard and enjoying the journey together.”
🔹 How do you motivate players when things aren’t going their way?
“I remind the kids that baseball is a game of ups and downs, and even the best players in the world don’t succeed every time. Mistakes are part of learning, so we pick each other up, keep our heads up and focus on the next play. I want the players to know that I’ll always encourage them to keep trying and believe in themselves.”
🔹 What life lessons do you hope your players take away from baseball?
“More than anything, I hope they learn the importance of teamwork, respect, resilience and friendship. Winning is great, but being a good teammate, supporting each other through the tough times and never giving up are lessons that will stay with them long after their playing days are over. If they leave the team having grown as people, made great memories and had a heap of fun, then that’s a win in my eyes.”
