Keeping back to the quicks? Think fast feet, slow hands. 🧀🏏

The Australian approach to wicketkeeping against fast bowling is about moving your feet laterally to the line of the ball, rather than simply reaching with your gloves.

Focus on:
βœ… Fast lateral footwork
βœ… Get your head and eyes behind the ball
βœ… Take the ball underneath your eyes
βœ… Keep your hands relaxed
βœ… Use a long, smooth β€œgive” through the catch

The quicker the bowling, the more important your positioning becomes.

Fast feet. Slow hands. Clean takes.

Want to take more nicks behind the stumps? 🧀🏏

Don’t just reach with your gloves. Get your feet and head towards the line of the ball.

That small movement gives you:
βœ… More catching range
βœ… Better vision into the gloves
βœ… More room to react to late movement
βœ… Cleaner, more controlled takes

Move your head to the line and give your hands more freedom to react.

Want to take more catches? Softer hands can make a big difference. 🏏
A common mistake is keeping your arms too straight and rigid when the ball arrives.

Instead:
βœ… Keep a slight bend in your elbows
βœ… Stay relaxed through contact
βœ… Let your hands β€œgive” with the ball
βœ… Cushion the catch rather than fighting it

You don’t need a huge movement. Just enough give to absorb the pace and maintain control.

Soft elbows. Soft hands. Better catching.

Falling across the ball when you play the flick? Your head position could be the reason. 🏏

When your head falls towards the off side, your weight follows and it becomes harder to stay balanced through contact.

Instead, focus on:

βœ… Keep your head on the line of the ball
βœ… Stay balanced through contact
βœ… Let your head and shoulders move through the shot
βœ… Finish moving towards where you’re hitting

Where your head goes, your body usually follows.

🏏 Does your trigger leave you out of position?

A lateral trigger can work, but if your head falls too far inside the line, it can make it harder to get back into a strong position. The focus here was getting the right eye back towards the target, then staying still and set to access the line of the ball.

Struggling with the short ball? Your mindset matters just as much as your technique. 🏏

Good short-ball batting is about risk vs reward. Know your hitting zone, understand the match situation and make a clear decision.

βœ… Positive intent to score
βœ… Strong head and back-foot position
βœ… Commit when the ball is there
βœ… Evade when it’s not

A positive mindset puts you in a better position to attack or evade. Hesitation is where problems start.

This movement could be costing you chances behind the stumps. 🧀🏏

Working in an arc can turn your hips away from the ball and close off your gloves, reducing your catching area.

Instead, focus on:

βœ… Moving in a straight line
βœ… Keeping your hips square to the ball
βœ… Keeping both gloves available
βœ… Maintaining maximum catching surface area

Better movement gives your hands a better chance to do their job.
