For a long time, I thought healing was the goal.

If I could just fix one more thing, work through one more pattern, or have one more breakthrough, I’d finally arrive.

What I’ve come to realise is that healing can sometimes become its own form of seeking. There will always be another layer, another insight, and another thing we can work on.

But these days I’m more interested in what comes after that. Not healing for the sake of healing, but healing in service of living.

Becoming more available for life, relationships, creativity, purpose, and the everyday moments that make me feel most alive.

For me, that’s what Expansion is really about.

What is your healing in service of?

It can be easy to think we need to keep fixing or healing something.

But sometimes that search within itself IS the very convincing and cleverly disguised defensive structure that’s actually keeping us from participating in life more fully.

It’s a sneaky trap I find myself in too sometimes… so this is as much a reminder for me as it is for you 🙏

Ever been told to “get your act together”? 🤣 I heard it plenty growing up… but no one ever showed me how.

I spent years working on my body in the fitness industry… looking the part while dealing with self-criticism, depression, and a deep sense that something was missing.

Breathwork changed that because it gave me a way to actually feel what was happening on the inside… and slowly everything else changed.

Most people look for techniques to feel better. What’s actually needed is awareness of the patterns already running the show.

Real change isn’t loud. It builds through awareness and capacity. And over time, that’s what creates transformation that flows out into all areas of life.

The three pillars in this carousel aren’t just concepts. They’re the framework I teach in workshops and retreats, because they’re what actually worked for me.

Which one are you missing most… Awareness, Capacity or Transformation?

Breathwork is the doorway. Life is the destination.

Most people think breathwork is all about releasing trauma or chasing altered states, but what we’re really exploring is something much deeper and far more profound. The body’s capacity to stay present with life.

This work isn’t about fixing. It’s about creating the conditions for life to move more freely through the body, because life naturally moves toward expansion when the conditions support it.

Breathwork and Bioenergetics are practices that expand the organism’s capacity to feel, move energy, and stay present with life as it unfolds, and that’s exactly what we explored in last week’s Breath of Life retreat.

A huge shout out to the incredible group who shared this experience with me last week Your depth, openness, and willingness in the room created something that could only emerge through trust and presence.

Retreats don’t change your life by themselves. They reveal what is ready to change, and what continues to unfold after. The quiet shifts, the new awareness, the way life starts to feel a little more available.

More vitality. More aliveness. More of the life that’s already here, waiting to be lived.

If you feel ready to step into this work, the next Breath of Life retreat runs May 24–27 🙏

Is breathwork dangerous?

It can feel intense, activating, and unfamiliar, but intensity is not the same as harm.

What I’m seeing in the industry right now is a growing confusion between activation and retraumatisation, discomfort and danger, incomplete energy cycles and actual risk.

Breathwork is not inherently unsafe, but poor facilitation can be.

We’ve started pathologising intensity as harm. We’ve blurred the line between breath awareness and full-spectrum breathwork, and we’ve mistaken comfort for safety.

When activation is opened without completion and integration, the nervous system can remain partially charged. That lingering charge is often labelled as anxiety or “unsafe.”

Real safety in breathwork is not the absence of intensity. It is the presence of structure, skilled containment, and trust.

If you’re questioning whether breathwork is safe, I unpack this fully in my latest article. Link in bio

You’re not hard to fix. You’re just hard on yourself.

When we get stuck in life, most people try to fix themselves instead of simply being with themselves.

They step out of the present moment and into a story about who they should be.

Healing isn’t something to force or optimise. It’s the natural expansion that happens when you stop pushing, stop analysing, and let the body lead.

It’s what happens when you soften, stay with yourself, and let your nervous system reorganise.

When you stop gripping, your system expands. When you stop trying so hard, clarity arises on its own.

Presence is the doorway back to yourself. This is where you meet what’s true. This is where things really shift.

If 2025 reminded me of one thing, it’s this…

In a world constantly filled with opinions and partial truths, it’s worth remembering that we’re all just speaking from our own childhood conditioning, core values, lived experience, and level of self-awareness.

Often it’s the loudest voices that get the most attention. Not because they’re any wiser, but because conviction rarely asks for reflection. Simply put, the loudest voices can sound the most convincing.

For me, it’s about listening without surrendering inner authority. To let information inform me, but not define me or pull me off centre. To learn without losing myself.

To remember not every truth I hear is meant to become mine. Some are simply reflections of how another person perceives reality.

As we move into 2026, I remind myself of this…

Someone else’s truth is shaped by their own nervous system capacity, and their lived experience. And so is mine.

In a world full of opinions, I choose to stay anchored in my own experience and to strengthen my relationship with my inner reference point.

I choose to listen more carefully to my own inner knowing, not the external noise. To take in what resonates without losing touch with what’s true for me.

To remember that resonance doesn’t always mean alignment. And disagreement doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

As I often say to clients… Don’t believe a word I say until you’ve experienced it to be true for you too.

Happy New Year.
MM

The deeper work begins when the body stops trying to control the breath and starts trusting what wants to move.

When regulation creates enough capacity, energy can circulate without force. Sensation can be felt without bracing. Vitality can rise without being overwhelmed.

This is where breathwork becomes less about mechanics and more about your relationship with your body, your nervous system, and life itself.

If this resonated, you’ll understand why the work is subtler, and far more powerful than it looks.
