Surya namaskar
Though translated as sun salutation it has a much deeper meaning than simply adoring the sun.
It is expression of gratitude, an offering and a prayer for wellbeing.

Gratitude
It is offering gratitude to the life sustaining force of the sun. The very fact we are alive and woke up this morning is enough reason to be thankful for. When we are grateful in the morning we are changing our perception to recognise the blessings we have and to focus on the positive qualities if people around us.

Offering
Namaskar is "I bow to you"
When the hands join together in the frist asana we recognise the underlying consciousness in all , which is represented as the sun.
We offer all that which disturbs our minds and bring ourselves to the present moment .
This in turn opens our mind to find balance and stability.

Prayer
The various asanas in surya namaskar are performef in a gracefully flow so they influence us not just physically but also on the psychological and spiritual aspect. This is turns brings a sense of overall well being.
