2026 Committee Appreciation Post ❤🤍

As the 2026 season comes to an end, we'd like to acknowledge the time and effort that our volunteer committee have put into making the 2026 season a successful one.

In Carleen's Presidents Report she says (summarised):

"My greatest acknowledgement must go to our Tahs Committee.

Running a club of this size involves an enormous amount of work that is often unseen. Planning for a season begins well before the first game and continues long after the final whistle. Throughout the year, the committee manages registrations, grading, coaching staff, uniforms, umpires, sponsorship, finances, events, communication and the many other responsibilities required to keep our club operating.

To every committee member, thank you for the countless hours, meetings, phone calls, messages and behind the scene work you have contributed throughout the year.

Quite simply, Tahs could not operate without you"

Our final Club Award for 2026 - Presidents Award 🏆

Each year the club president chooses someone who goes above and beyond their role, supporting her and helping the club to thrive. Carleen has been a recipient of this award multiple times since it was introduced in 2017, so she knows a thing or two about what it takes.

President's Award: Sam Lewis
Carleen had very few words to say about Sam - which is very unlike her, but more so that she had spoken about her in the Presidents address earlier in the night. Saying that Sam helped to support the 6-week Junior Development Program ran in Term 2, jumped in and helped wherever was needed and an asset to the club. Carleen also congratulated Sam on winning the DNA Volunteer of the Year award at the recent DNA awards night.

Sam can be found at the courts from pre-season to end of season 3 - 4 nights a week, supporting both our Junior and Senior teams.

Congratulations on taking out this award for a second year running ❤🤍

Alright, where were we with our 2026 season recap? Club Awards - Sunbuild Pty Ltd Spirit Award 🏆

Each year we present an award in honour of our Gold Sponsors Sunbuild Pty Ltd to someone within our Premier League and Reserves Squad. Sunbuild not only help us keep our fees low, support our Junior program weekly awards but also have the coveted Squad 'Spirit Award' named after them. There have been some worthy recipients over the years of this award... Leith Wood, Sam Lewis and Michelle Hann just to name a few and this year's winner is right up there.

🏆 SUNBUILD SPIRIT AWARD: Jordyn Nicolson
Jordy, the Squad’s personality hire 🌟
All jokes aside, what an absolute vibe of a human. Always bubbly, always happy to be around the girls and everyone’s biggest cheerleader, from on and off the court.
She gave 110% all season, and that hard work earned her a well-deserved spot in the Prem lineup for finals. Whether she was on court or on the sidelines, Jordy was always backing the girls, keeping spirits high and bringing the energy.
She's the kind of player every team-mate wants beside the and every coach wants on their team, and that's exactly what the Sunbuild Squad Spirit Award is all about.

And just like that the Bali Flames comp is over, we may not have made the finals but we definitely had a blast, made new friends and were the best dressed!

We pause our recap of the 2026 season to come back to the present to wish our Tahs players who are travelling to Bali this weekend to participate in the Bali Flames competition and celebrate the End of Season!!

What could possibly go wrong?? Grass courts, day-time games and more players aged over 40 than under 😆 Apply the sunscreen, keep up your hydration and hopefully by the end of the two-day competition everyone is still able to walk ❤🤍

Next up in our 2026 recap are our Coaches.

This year bought on new challenges with any increase to our Junior teams meaning we needed to find a few more volunteers to allow us to have so many teams out on court. A big thank you to everyone who put their hand up to coach or said yes to our pretty pretty pleases and took on a team.

We are so very grateful. We hope to see you all back out there again in 2027.

Following on from our Club Volunteer Awards, our next Club award is Umpire of Year.

With 14 Junior teams and 8 Senior teams our Umpire Co-ordinators had their hands full each and every week filling our allocations. A big thank you to those who week-in week-out put their hands up to fill one of these many spots. Without the rest of us wouldn't be able to play the game we love!

We hope to see you all back again next year, running the sideline, keeping the rest of us in line.

🏆 Umpire of Year: Montana Heriot
Montana reached out to the club via a friend wanting to get back into umpiring. From Seniors week one, Montana was umpiring one or two games each, rolling in to Juniors she was also spending her Wednesday nights at the courts. It was a unanimous vote for Montana to take out this award from both umpire co-ordinators.

Award presented by Lee-anne Muller, founding Waratahs member. Jess Stewart accepted the award on Montana's behalf.

Next up in our 2026 season recap is our Club Awards - Junior and Senior Volunteer.

Before we get to the award winners, a big thank you to everyone who volunteered for the club in 2026. Your support does not go unnoticed, and we could not have had such a successful year without you all.

These awards were presented during our Junior and Senior End of Year Presentations. Nominations were sought prior to the end of season from the Waratah Netball Community with some members of the Committee voting on the winner.

🏆 JUNIOR VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: Jacinta Petschel
Jacinta took on the Junior Umpire Co-ordinator role after a call out at the start of the year, she also went into it knowing that we had a possible 13 umpire commitments to fill each week. Each and every week the allocations were filled, with no complaints when there was a late change to the plan.

🏆 JIM MACADAM VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: Maddie Couroupis
Maddie was an integral part of the club's Premier League coaching team this year. Taking on the role as a player/coach she also took on coaching our Under 17's team without hesitation. Maddie is a great role model for our Junior players, inspiring them and getting them ready to move from the Junior competition to the Senior competition.
