Darwin, we’ve got another serious contender 🇳🇿🏏

NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey announced New Zealand A’s participation at Darwin’s local Māori community group’s Matariki Festival.

The Blackcaps A squad will make their first Study NT Top End T20 Series appearance, adding another strong international team to the tournament.

“NZC has made it clear they are sending a very strong A squad across the ditch. They are coming to win it.”

News | New Zealand A men are set to make their first appearance at the Study Northern Territory Top End T20 Series, hosted in Darwin, Northern Territory next month.

The competition, comprising 11 days of T20 cricket, will feature some of the best T20 franchise teams from around the globe and provides high level T20 cricket ahead of the New Zealand home summer to players who are deeper in the high performance succession plan.

We have waited 22 years for Test cricket to return to the Territory.

Last week, that return felt a little closer when Nathan Lyon joined us at Cullen Bay, giving local fans the chance to hear directly from one of the game’s greats 🐐🏏

Moments like this show what international cricket can bring beyond the match itself. Players we usually watch from thousands of kilometres away are suddenly here in the Top End, connecting with our community.

It was a privilege to learn from Trent Lee of Larrakia Nation as NT Cricket recognised 50 years of NAIDOC Week at the Darwin Waterfront. With Nathan Lyon visiting the Top End, it was fitting that his time in Darwin began with a traditional Saltwater Welcome
to Country, reflecting the important place First Nations culture holds in the Northern Territory.
