DARWIN OUTRIGGER CANOE CLUB is ready to welcome new paddlers onto the water with our regular Sunday Funday sessions—a beginner-friendly way to experience outrigger paddling!
Whether you’re looking to try a new sport, meet a welcoming community, or simply spend quality time on the water, Sunday Funday is open to experienced paddlers, returning members, and complete beginners alike.
Outrigger canoes are traditional 42-foot vessels fitted with an ama (outrigger) for stability. Each canoe accommodates six paddlers working together, with the caller and steerer guiding the craft. Rooted in ancient Polynesian and Hawaiian traditions, outrigger paddling is a unique sport that combines fitness, teamwork, and culture, offering pathways for both social paddling and competitive racing.
What to Expect
When: Every Sunday morning. Meet up 7.50am
Come & Try Cost: Free for all newcomers trying out the sport. We do encourage Ski Club Membership
Where: Darwin Ski Club - meet in car park
What to bring: A water bottle, hat, sun-protective clothing (shorts and a rashie/sun-shirt), and a spirit of adventure. Paddles and safety gear are provided!
Our experienced coaches and club members will guide you through the basics of paddling technique, water safety, and canoe etiquette before heading out into the harbor.
