Someone sent me a NT News article about Saratoga, and I sat there nodding the whole way through. Everything in it, the fight, the surface strikes, the fact that so many anglers secretly hope the next strike is a toga and not a barra, is exactly what I have been saying for years.

We run a tagging program built around this fish because we believe it deserves more than the label most people give it.

It is a strange thing, watching the rest of the fishing world slowly catch up to something you already knew.

Ran the numbers on what quitting fishing would save me. Then closed the calculator and went and bought more gear.

What’s your number looking like?

Six weeks of no heavy lifting doesn't mean six weeks of nothing. This week I finally got our June Saratoga tagging numbers updated for Geofish.

It's not as exciting as being out on the water, but it matters just as much. Every fish tagged and logged adds to a bigger picture of how our Saratoga population is tracking across the Territory, and that data only means something if it actually gets recorded properly.

Job done!

I knew it would be a hard no.

Two weeks post op and “just a gentle rehab session on the water” felt like a reasonable ask.

Turns out gentle wasn’t really on the cards. 😂

Worth every second of the rest I’m now being forced to take. Doctors orders.

Last week I got to volunteer at the Palmerston Game Fishing Club Junior Angler Education Clinic, and it's exactly the kind of day that reminds me why mentorship matters so much in this sport.

Kids casting for the first time, a hundred questions a minute, and lighting up every time a line went tight. A few of them will remember that day for the rest of their lives, the same way I remember mine on a mudbank as a ten year old.

Huge thanks to PGFC for having me along.

Barra Nationals update.

Both teams have their boat numbers! The tension is palpable… and our girls look SWEEEET in their team kit 🙂

Join us in wishing them the best… Post your best messages for today in the comments here. We’ll ensure they get them 🤗

The day before a 9 hour surgery, I did the only thing that made sense. Went to the billabong. 🎣💛

One week into six weeks of no heavy lifting and I already know what I'll be missing most.

You don’t fall in love with fishing, you fall like an avalanche! 🎣✨

Buffalo, bushfire smoke, a croc in the grass and a saratoga to finish it off, just another day getting to the spot.

June, wrapped and done.

It started at Barra Nats on the Daly River, early starts, big smiles, and a a number of barra that made the whole week worth it. Then straight into family fishing trips before the month was even done, because the best days on the water are always the ones spent with people who talk you into 'just one more cast.'

These are my favourite catches, favourite faces and favourite mornings from June, all in one reel. Onward to July.

Out with the old, in with the new!

This prop has seen better days thanks to the might Daly River, so it was time for an upgrade. Bit of boat maintenance never looks glamorous but it's all part of keeping her ready for the next trip out.
