DNA First Nations Round | 17–18 June

Next week, Darwin Netball Association proudly recognises and celebrates First Nations Round across our junior and senior competitions.

First Nations Round is an important opportunity for our netball community to recognise, acknowledge, respect and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories and contributions to our sport and wider community.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, skies and waterways on which we live, work and play netball. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise the continuing connection First Nations peoples have to Country, culture and community.

DNA also acknowledges and celebrates the many cultures represented within our membership. Our netball community is strengthened by the diversity of our players, families, coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters, who all come together to create an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment.

Across 17–18 June, we encourage all clubs, teams, players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and spectators to participate to recognise in a respectful and meaningful way.

This may include wearing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag colours, ribbons, socks or scrunchies, sharing an Acknowledgement of Country, learning more about local culture, and recognising the First Nations players, families, coaches, umpires and volunteers within our netball community.

This round is about more than netball. It is about recognition, connection, respect, inclusion, learning and community.

Let’s come together to celebrate culture, recognise First Nations voices, and continue creating a safe, respectful and welcoming netball environment for everyone.

Congratulations Rachelle 🌟

MEET THE COACH | RACHELLE TINNING

Assistant Coach Rachelle Tinning is a proud product of the Northern Territory netball pathway and will help lead Territory Storm at the 2026 Super Netball Reserves Finals.

Having been involved in netball since NetSetGO, Rachelle began coaching around seven years ago as a way to stay connected to the game beyond her playing career. Since then, she has coached junior club athletes, co-coaches PINTS Premier League and Reserves, and was Head Coach of Netball NT's 2025 19&U National Netball Championships team.

For Rachelle, Territory Storm has always represented the pinnacle of the pathway.

"Having grown up through the NT netball pathway, Territory Storm has always been the pinnacle of elite competition. As a player, I had the privilege of training alongside a number of Storm athletes through club netball who set the standard, and now to help coach the next generation is very exciting."

"Storm is the highest-level competition we have to showcase our exceptionally talented netballers, and to be part of representing the Northern Territory on the national stage is something I will always be proud to do."

Rachelle is looking forward to seeing the athletes rewarded for the effort they have put into the program.

"I am excited to see our entire team come together in some great displays of netball. The athletes have been working so hard each week and seeing them rewarded for that hard work will make it all worthwhile."

She has also been pleased with the way the team and staff have embraced the unique challenges of the program.

"We have such a great group of athletes who have all worked hard in the lead up to the tournament. The NT has unique challenges with our decentralised program, but they all understand that they are part of something bigger than themselves and carry that through their preparations."

"Nardia has joined us and brings such a wealth of knowledge, and we have all settled into our roles seamlessly."

Having grown up through the NT pathway herself, Rachelle now has the opportunity to help shape the next generation of Territory Storm athletes.
