Darwin's Interschool AFL Competition

𝐎𝐂𝐂 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🏆
O'Loughlin Catholic College have taken out the Senior Girls Gala Day after a strong day of football against Haileybury Rendall School and SEDA.

OCC met SEDA in the Grand Final, with SEDA College NT coming out firing early and putting plenty of pressure on the contest. OCC responded well in the second half, gaining control of the game and kicking away to secure the win.

𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐚, a Year 9 student, was outstanding through the midfield and was arguably best on ground, backing up from her Middle School Grand Final win the day before with another impressive performance.

Credit to SEDA and Haileybury for their strong competition and sportsmanship throughout the day. The Gala Day showcased a fantastic standard of girls football and it is exciting to see what the after school competition in term 3 can produce.

The O'Loughlin Catholic College girls have made it a double for OCC, defeating Haileybury Rendall School in the Middle School Girls Grand Final.

O’Loughlin came out firing in the first quarter and quickly took control of the game. From there, Haileybury were unable to halt the momentum, with OCC running out convincing winners in the end.

Full credit to Haileybury, who have had a fantastic season and didnt stop fighting right until the end.

Best on Ground was awarded to Navaeh Phoneyiem for her exhilarating speed and goal sense. She helped turn the game early and played a major role in guiding O’Loughlin to victory.

In the Middle School Boys Grand Final, O'Loughlin Catholic College ran out convincing winners against a resilient Nightcliff High School side.

OCC started the game on fire, kicking three quick goals, with Brodie Ayres and Joel Kitching both hitting the scoreboard early. From there, it became a real tug-of-war, with OCC gradually increasing the margin throughout the second and third quarters.

Nightcliff showed great fight in the final term with a late comeback, but it was too late, with O’Loughlin holding strong to claim the win and go back-to-back as Middle School Boys Champions.

Jed Crossman, Fletcher Kopf and Jack Singh were rock solid in defence, while the classy midfield group of Addi Omeike, Brodie Ayres and Matty Armstrong were given first use by big man Max Gardner. Their hard work was finished off by Joel Kitching, Seb Hale and Pat “The Postman” Tonkin, who all delivered in the forward line.

For Nightcliff, Patrick Hussein was outstanding, running non-stop all game through the midfield. Kahn Oxtoby and Zaiden Shadforth worked hard in the backline, while Peter Kalidonis battled away strongly all game. Will Gray and Oliver Rivas also found plenty of the footy through the midfield, with Rivas, fresh off his U16 Academy trip, having to deal with a strong tag from Matty Armstrong.

It was a brilliant team performance from OCC, but best on ground was awarded to classy midfielder Brodie Ayres, who dominated with five goals and a game-winning performance. This caps off a brilliant season for Brodie, who has been one of the standout players of the competition and looks to have a huge future ahead

O'Loughlin Catholic College and Haileybury Rendall School meet today in their third Middle School Grand Final in a row.

These two schools have built a fierce rivalry, having played off in numerous finals over the years.

It was Haileybury who took out the honours last year in a rollercoaster of a final, but OCC are out for revenge this year in what is sure to be an absolute blockbuster.

O'Loughlin Catholic College and Nightcliff High School will meet again in what is shaping up to be a Grand Final to remember. These two teams have built a long and fierce rivalry, with Nightcliff the only team to have ever beaten OCC in the history of the Middle School Competition.

Nightcliff were undermanned when beaten in their Round 1 after-school clash, but have since regained some crucial players and will be looking to upset OCC again.

OCC have been the dominant team of the competition, but anything can happen on Grand Final day.

Tomorrow at the home of school footy, The Michael Bowden Oval, at 3:30pm for what is sure to be a Grand Final for the ages.

Grand Final Week

O'Loughlin Catholic College have taken out the Senior Boys AFL Gala Day today.
The day saw O’Loughlin, Haileybury Rendall School and SEDA College NT go head-to-head following some unfortunate late withdrawals. Despite this, the standard of football was outstanding, with all three schools stacked full of talent and plenty of exciting football on display.

It was O’Loughlin and Haileybury once again reigniting their fierce school footy rivalry, meeting in the Grand Final. O’Loughlin proved too strong, running out winners 22–8 in a hard-fought contest.
For O’Loughlin, the Lowah brothers were outstanding across the day, but the real story was the return of Charlie Bowden after three difficult years battling injury. Charlie produced an enormous performance, showing incredible resilience and determination to get back on the field. He should be extremely proud of the comeback he has made.

Overall, it was a fantastic day of football and a great preview of what promises to be an exciting Term 3 Senior School AFL competition. 🔥🏉
