Darwin Basketball Association (DBA) has ceased operations

As part of Basketball Australia’s proposal for an improved structural arrangement, endorsed by our clubs, DBA has now ceased operations.

Staff will no longer be in the office and emails will not be monitored.

A new League - Darwin Basketball League (DBL) - will be formed under Basketball NT for 2026.

The new arrangement is designed to herald in a new era for local basketball – one that respects DBA’s past, while delivering a brighter future.

THE FUTURE OF DARWIN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (DBA)

Dear basketball community.

At an historic Special General Meeting (SGM) today, DBA affiliate members voted to support Basketball Australia’s (BA) proposal to transition DBA operations to a new governance model, which will see the establishment of the Darwin Basketball League (DBL) under Basketball NT (BNT).

The vote was made to ensure basketball in Darwin (and across the NT) is given the best opportunity to bounce back and enter a new era of financial strength, good governance and quality product for our players, volunteers and staff.

Today’s vote authorises the DBA affiliate members to start the process to wind up DBA and transition to DBL through formal channels, including legal, constitutional and member engagement.

A transition committee is being formed and will guide the changes over coming weeks and months.

IMPORTANTLY: Ventia Stadium will transfer from DBA to BNT and stay in basketball, competitions (including Friday night’s League Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals) will continue and the DBL will inherit DBA records and history.

Good news on the Cyclone Fina front!

Ventia Stadium will RE-OPEN
for Preliminary Finals games and club training tomorrow (Monday, 24th November) ✅🏀

We will also play the cancelled 3 v 4 games from Friday 21st November tomorrow. Check the fixture for details.

The cancelled 3 v 4 games from Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd will also be played this week. Check the fixture tomorrow for details.

Unfortunately, the cancelled 1 v 2 games from those 3 days will NOT be rescheduled ❌

The No.1 ranked side in those games will go straight to the Grand Final. The No.2 ranked side will go to the Preliminary Final.
