While out looking for pigs this morning, I came across a great flock of Pacific black ducks. Hopefully they stick around over the next few months. It’s not very often you see so many in one spot in the Northern Territory, so it was a great sight.

Under three months to go until the start of the 2026/27 Magpie Goose hunting season!
Now is the time to start getting organised. Here’s a quick preseason checklist:
✅ Make sure your fi****ms licence is current. If it needs renewing, don’t leave it until the last minute, as renewals can take time.
✅ New to hunting? Apply for your fi****ms licence now. The process can take a while, so don’t leave it too late.
✅ Apply for your Magpie Goose permit. It can be done online in just a few minutes, but getting it sorted now means you’re ready to go. While you’re at it, consider applying for a feral pig permit too.
✅ Blow the dust off the shotgun and get your eye in at your local gun club. Field & Game NT is a fantastic place to start, with great facilities and plenty of experienced members who are always willing to help.
✅ Start scouting potential hunting areas. It’s still a bit early and many swamps, particularly around Shoal Bay and Beatrice Lagoon, are still very muddy, so use caution if you’re heading out. While you’re there, keep an eye out for pigs as well.
