With the NZB Ready To Run sale on the horizon, it was timely to land another metropolitan race winner from the auction via the Christos Zintilis trained Swift Sovereign (4yo g Vadamos ex Grey Swallow) breaking his maiden on his third start at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.
Christos trusted my eye again just like he did two years earlier purchasing dual Brisbane metropolitan race winner Kairos Louie (by Time Test) for a bargain $26,000 and second time around we struck for only $15,000 proving there's a range of good prospects at all levels across the sale.

Enjoyed chewing the fat as guest with Bren O'Brien and Tim Rowe on The Straight's weekly podcast.
My musings start at 23m.40s.

This week on Straight Talk, we unpack New Zealand's fight to save its Group 1 races, feature a special interview with agent Paul Moroney, and examine the key talking points across racing and wagering, including the Cox Plate, The Everest, the Caulfield Cup and renewed calls for national reform.

Was great to see our past Group 2 winner The Pendragon (6yo g U S Navy Flag ex Kerre) back in the winner's circle taking out the Horsham Cup on Sunday.
Injured not long after crossing the Tasman from New Zealand where he last won the Auckland Guineas (G2) on Boxing Day, 2023, it's been a frustrating wait for his patient connections who were duly rewarded with his strong win going 2100m under 61kg.
Now that he's recaptured winning form, has finally stepped up over ground and remains sound, we're hoping he can get back to Group race success again.
The Pendragon's win was our 21st for the season across Australasia and took our combined country earnings to $1,049,130.

Delighted to have landed this athletic State Of Rest ex Empress Bea c**t for Jason and Tahlia Micallef's Monarch Racingfrom today's Inglis Ready To Race sale for $90,000.
Was most taken by his breeze up leading into the sale, especially his fluent, long action and also impressed by his conformation and type in the flesh.
His sire was a globe trotting champion, winning Group 1s in four different countries including taking out the Cox Plate in Australia while he comes from a deep, high class family developed in North America by leviathan breeder Ogden Phipps.

Two new stakes performers at Flemington on Saturday added to the vast list of stakes producing broodmares we've selected over the years.
Firstly our 22k gns 2021 December sales purchase Moselle Valley (GER) (Guiliani ex Montfleur) had her first foal Vallice (3yo c by Maurice) strengthen his claims as a Victoria Derby prospect finishing strongly for second in the listed Super Impose Stakes.
Moselle Valley (top photo) became our 20th stakes producing mare purchased from Tattersalls sales in England alone.
Later on the programme, Stylish (6yo m Lonhro ex Alaskan Rose) scored a poignant win in the Rose of Kingston Stakes (G2). We bought her G3-placed dam Alaskan Rose (Encosta de Lago ex Saskia) firstly as an NZB yearling for my late brother Mike's Ballymore Stables Australia and she carried the celebrated Rupert and Cheryl Legh colours as did her daughter on Saturday.
We bought Alaskan Rose again on behalf of a subset of the original racing ownership group at the 2017 Magic Millions National Breeding stock sale.
Stylish (bottom photo) is her second foal and one of only three produced before Alaskan Rose sadly died in 2022 and Mike actually planned the mating that produced the latest stakes performer on the breeding stock side of our bloodstock consultancy.

Nice trial at the Gold Coast today from our multi millionaire selection Yellow Brick, not extended for second behind current Stradbroke titleholder Spicy Martini.
The 20k purchase, who has topped $4.5m in earnings, looks on song for Sears Racing for his major spring targets in Sydney culminating in the $2m Sydney Stakes at Randwick on October 17.
