Congratulations to our 8 students who competed in the ATV Moomba State Championships yesterday. It was a long day but we gained valuable mat time in both Poomsae & Kyorugi. These are the experiences that we need to build towards the National Championships later on this year. Everyone gave it their best effort and as their coach thatβs all I can ask for and I am super proud of our entire team.

Congratulations to everyone who attempted their grading today at our Ivanhoe East dojang. Everyone gave it their best effort and the results were impressive on the whole.
Today was Selenaβs special day. Going for black belt is a big deal and Selena has been training for this moment for many years. Despite this, it was only yesterday where she was looking a bit shaky on a couple of things. In true Selena style, she persevered with things until she got it right. This is a true black belt spirit. As her father I am so proud of her and it was very difficult for me to overcome the tears of joy of how proud I am of her. When she read her essay out loud to everyone it is obvious that she is not only great at Taekwondo but she is a great person. Congratulations on achieving your 1st Poom.
Lauren also attempted her 4th Dan grading today and performed very well. We congratulate her on her achievement as 4th Dan is considered a high level of Taekwondo expertise, both in skill and knowledge. Well done Lauren!
Results of gradings will all be finalised properly during class this week. Unfortunately we had time constraints today as we were running a bit behind schedule.
*Update: I have now gone through all the results of the panel. 34 candidates were tested for promotion:
24 Passed
4 Fail
6 Incomplete (apologies to these candidates but due to time constraints you will be tested on your theory & terminology in your next class). Other assessed areas were a pass.
I would also like to thank Master Sam (6th Dan) and Master Karl (5th Dan) for their assistance on the grading panel today. It was a pleasure to work alongside you and itβs nice for our students to meet senior instructors from other clubs. ππ₯

Reminder to everyone that grading day is only 2 and a half weeks away. Sunday December 7th in the afternoon. Make sure to keep practicing so that you are well prepared for the day!
Venue open time is 1:30pm.
Test starting times:
2pm - White belts to yellow one
Yellow one to yellow two
Yellow two to yellow three
Yellow three to blue one
3pm - Blue one to blue two
Blue two to blue three
Blue three to red one
4pm - Red one to red two
Red two to red three
Red three to Black
3rd Dan to 4th Dan
A lot goes into preparing a grading like this, particularly when we have black belt applicants. Organising new belts, uniforms, embroidery, boards, Kukkiwon certificates, selecting panel members are just some of the things. However, for an instructor itβs also a stressful couple of weeks leading into a grading because itβs my job to make sure that everyone is well prepared for what theyβre about to do.
We are running this grading as a panel grading with 3 judges. To ensure we maintain a quality standard you must obtain a pass from all three judges to pass the grading. This is considered an unofficial panel and is good practice for when you have to grade with an official panel (5th Dan to 7th Dan).
We wish everyone the best of luck in your preparations and upcoming grading.

Overall our team will be bringing home 9 silver medals & 7 bronze medals. What an amazing haul of medals from a team of only 8 athletes.
