What a spectacular night of action-packed boxing on Saturday night for our 4th annual John Smillie cup.
Elijah, on debut, got the win in a really good contest against a good kid. Both gave their all, and there were no losers in that one.
Bahram again stepped up to the table in his 14th bout. This time, he got the win against the New Zealand champion with over 80 bouts to his name, another really close contest. Congratulations and also well done to young Motekai. Great kid.
Dion fell short against his opponent, and Parker got off to a great start but got caught. He was brave and never gave up but that's boxing.

GYM IN THE SPOTLIGHT:Doveton Boxing Club. Be sure to get down to the next Boxing Victoria amateur show: the much loved John Smillie Cup, hosted by Doveton Boxing Club, a show close to their heart. Doveton Boxing Club is an authentic focused boxing gym operating in the South East Suburbs of Melbourne. Run by head coach Ryan they have an amazing reputation for helping the community whilst also training quality amateur fighters, regularly competing at most shows. The club is known for its close knit environment amongst the community and is always giving back to the youth and locals. Make sure you keep Saturday August 29 free as Doveton will be hosting an exciting night of boxing, with International fighters from New Zealand competing against some of Victoria’s best amateur boxers. With music and a great atmosphere, it’s guaranteed to be a great night of boxing. Come support local amateur boxing and cheer on our athletes.

Young Bahram stepped up again, travelling over to Adelaide to fight Australia's best in his hometown. Finished really strong, boxed well answered everything in a super close fight, not the decision we came for, but the experience we take away. This kid will fight anyone, anywhere no questions asked. A change in the weight class a couple of days out wasn't in our favour, so hopefully, we get that fight again. Well done, mate💚🖤 onto the next

Dinnny and Jimmy keeping busy performing well again today.
It's all learning in these bouts, and these boys are moving along well. Sharing the ring also with some really good kids is the reason these u13 Boxing Victoria skills bouts levels are really picking up.
