SHARKS ARE VJBL CHAMPIONS πŸ†πŸ¦ˆ

Three gold medals in one night. Friday September 11 is going into the history books at Southern Peninsula.

πŸ€ U12.1 GIRLS def. SANDRINGHAM 38-20
They trailed by three early in the second and then flipped a switch. From 10-7 down, the Sharks reeled off a 22-1 run that stretched across two quarters and broke the game wide open. Sandringham managed a single point for the entire third term. That is not a typo. A defensive performance for the ages.

πŸ€ U14.1 GIRLS def. BROADMEADOWS 27-22
Down 19-13 at the main break and staring at it. Then came the third quarter, and the Sharks held Broadmeadows to zero. Not a point. A three-pointer midway through the term gave us a lead we'd never fully surrender, and the girls iced it from the free throw line with the clock under a minute. Broadmeadows scored three points in the entire second half. Thirty seconds of scoreboard, twenty minutes of heart.

πŸ€ U12.3 GIRLS def. PAKENHAM 26-24
Five points at half time. Five. Down 10-5 and every reason to fold. Instead they outscored Pakenham 21-14 after the break, wrestled the lead back, lost it, and found it again. Scores locked at 24-24 with 49 seconds left. The winning bucket dropped with 27 on the clock. If you were in that gym, you'll never forget it.

Three teams. Three championships. Three groups of girls who refused to be beaten. πŸ’›πŸ’™

AND OUR BOYS RAN THEM CLOSE.

Six Southern Peninsula teams made Grand Final day, and our three boys' sides brought home silver the hard way.

πŸ€ Our 12.2 Boys went down 8-0 before they'd found their feet against Pakenham, then spent the next three quarters hunting. They led by two in the third and were within a single point inside the last three minutes before Pakenham's late run settled it, 57-48.

πŸ€ Our 14.1 Boys clawed back to within three of Ballarat in the final term after a grinding third quarter, finishing 39-23.

πŸ€ Our 16.1 Boys went toe to toe with Frankston in an all-Peninsula decider, tied it up at 20-20 and were within three at the final change before falling 46-39.

Silver medals, but make no mistake. Six teams in Grand Finals says everything about where this club is going.

To every player, coach, team manager and parent who drove the kilometres, filled the stands and turned up week after week, this season belongs to you too.

Once a Shark, always a Shark. 🦈

πŸ€ This year alone we've lost 16 referees, and the reason is almost always the same: how they get spoken to from the sidelines. Many of them are teenagers learning the job in front of a crowd.

πŸ”₯ Finals are here across our junior and senior competitions. Tighter games and bigger stakes don't make it okay to take it out on an official.

πŸ“£ Before you head to the stadiums remember:

πŸ”Έ Yelling at the refs won't change the call.
πŸ”Έ Intimidating a referee reduces their ability to perform at their best, and that benefits nobody.
πŸ”Έ Got a concern? Take it to the referee supervisor.

πŸ™Ž If you wouldn't say it to your own child, don't say it to the refs.

🚫 No Refs, No Play.

It all comes down to this. πŸ†

Our Winter Community Competition Grand Finals are here, and every court will be worth watching. Five nights of finals across every age group, from our youngest juniors right through to our seniors.

πŸ“… Sat 12 Sept // U8 to U14
πŸ“… Sun 13 Sept // Mixed
πŸ“… Mon 14 Sept // Senior Mens, Senior Womens, and U14 Girls
πŸ“… Wed 16 Sept // U18 to U21 & Mens
πŸ“… Thur 17 Sept // U16 & Over 35's

Whether you're playing, coaching, courtside or just there for the atmosphere, this is the best week on the Community calendar. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring the noise.

One thing to remember before you walk in the door. Everyone in the stadium is here for the same reason. Our players are here for the love of the game. Many of our referees are teenagers themselves, out there doing a hard job under pressure so these games can happen at all. And every young person on that court is watching how the adults around them behave, learning what good sportsmanship looks like from us.

So cheer loudly, cheer positively, and cheer for effort as much as for points. Support your team, respect the opposition, and back our referees. That is what makes a grand final week worth remembering, long after the final buzzer.

Good luck to everyone and enjoy an amazing day of community basketball. πŸ¦ˆπŸ’›πŸ’™

A season that spoke for itself. πŸ†

Charles Elzie III has been named the 2026 Big V Division Two Men Most Valuable Player, along with a place in the All Star 5, the league's Leading Scorer, and Defensive Player of the Year!

LET'S GO CHARLE'S πŸ† πŸ† πŸ† πŸ†

Four awards. One season. Dominant at both ends of the floor and a driving force behind everything our Division Two Men achieved in 2026. Off the court Charles was always happy to help the younger generation and it was more often than not you would see him at Dromana and Rosebud stadiums.

From all of us at the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association, congratulations Charles! Thoroughly deserved. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Recognised as the best in her league. πŸ†

Imogen Eckman has been named the 2026 BigV Youth League Two Women Most Valuable Player, and has also earned a place in the All Star 5.

A standout year built on consistency, competitiveness and the kind of sportsmanship that lifts a whole team. Imogen represented the Sharks with class every time she stepped on the floor and has done so not only in our senior program but has been part of the Southern Peninsula Sharks since U12's!

Congratulations Imogen, we could not be prouder from all of us at SPBA. πŸ’™πŸ’›
