Your Bandits are thrilled to announce the re-signing of ๐‘บ๐’‰๐’‚๐’๐’† ๐‘ณ๐’๐’˜๐’๐’…๐’†๐’” as Youth League Women's Head Coach.

Shane will guide the girls for a third season in 2027 as they continue to improve at VBL Youth League One level.

He's also been a keen contributor from the bench for our NBL1 Women's side over the period.

Shane is a valued mentor and a much-loved character around the club and we're excited to see what the next year holds for our young troops.

Shane says: โ€œI appreciate the continued endorsement of the Bandits Board and Club to lead their Youth League Women program next season.

"Seeing this yearโ€™s athletes grow collectively, not only on the Big V court, but also with our NBL1 program was a key for me and it is exciting to see what opportunities 2027 brings."

Your Bandits also wish to thank Shane Strang as he moves on from a 3-year tenure as our Youth League Men's head coach.

Stepping into the top role for the 2024 season, Strangy has taken the fellas to the finals in each of his three seasons in charge.

He has helped nurture these young men along the way - plenty of them stepping up to NBL1 level across his journey.

We thank him for his tireless dedication to our programs - both YL and senior - and wish him and his family all the best for the future.

Shane wanted to reiterate some of what he said in his speech at our presentation night:

"To every player who has been part of the journey over the past three years, thank you. Thank you for your effort, your commitment, your willingness to be coached, and for the countless memories we've shared along the way.

"What I'll remember most won't be the wins, losses, or ladder positions. It'll be the relationships, the growth, and watching young men develop both on and off the court.

"The jersey will stay the same. The program will continue to grow. I'll just be cheering from a different place."

The Bandits would like to thank ๐‘บ๐’‚๐’Ž ๐‘ด๐’„๐‘ซ๐’๐’๐’‚๐’๐’… for his commitment, passion and contribution to our NBL1 Womenโ€™s program over the past three seasons as Head Coach.

Sam has invested an enormous amount of time and energy into the program and has helped lead our women through a significant period. Without doubt, he has made an important contribution to the history of our program.

Over the past 3 seasons, Sam has overseen the team to a 75% win-loss record, including a perfect 22-0 season in 2024 as we featured in the finals series in each of those seasons - previously unprecedented for the women's program.

Sam was also a crucial member of the coaching staff for our breakthrough 2022 Championship.

We sincerely thank Sam for everything he has given to the Bandits and wish him and his family all the very best for what comes next.

This is an important role within the future of our menโ€™s basketball program.

Working closely with NBL1 Menโ€™s Head Coach, ๐‘ฝ๐’Š๐’๐’„๐’†๐’๐’›๐’ ๐‘น๐’๐’—๐’†๐’•๐’•๐’, and the Bandits Basketball Committee, the successful coach will help strengthen the connection between our junior pathways, Youth League and NBL1 program - developing players who are ready to take the next step.

Our Youth League program is a critical part of the Bandits pathway, and we want a coach who sees success as both competing to win and preparing players for senior NBL1 basketball.

The Southern Vale Homes Bandits are excited to announce ๐‘ฝ๐’Š๐’๐’„๐’†๐’๐’›๐’ ๐‘น๐’๐’—๐’†๐’•๐’•๐’ as our NBL1 Men's Head Coach for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Having guided RMIT in Big V Basketball Men for the past 4 seasons (the past 2 in the Championship division), Vince led the Redbacks menโ€™s program to four consecutive finals campaigns, taking out the Division 1 title in 2024.

He brings a strong reputation for leadership, player development, high-performance standards and building winning basketball environments.

His ability to connect with players, develop talent and create genuine program culture made him an outstanding fit for the direction of our menโ€™s program.

Weโ€™re excited about what Vince will bring both on and off the court as we begin an important new chapter for Bandits basketball.

Vince says: โ€œWe will continue to harness the energy and passion of the wider community, through our defense-first mentality, whilst also maintaining our family first approach in everything we doโ€

The final awards of our evening last Sunday are always the most special.

Our Allen McCowan Memorial Award is presented to the player adjudged best on court - men or women - in our annual Allen McCowan game.

๐‘ฌ๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’š ๐‘ณ๐’š๐’•๐’๐’† was the deserving winner for her 32 point, 4 rebound effort in a strong win over Newcastle.

We move on to the Rob James Memorial Award, struck last year in honour of Rob, who passed away in early 2025.

This award's criteria includes: Demonstrating courage in the way they play, not always leading the stat sheet, but dependable. Putting the team first and consistently displaying acts of courage and bravery through facing challenges head on. A heart and soul type player to the club, showing loyalty and humility.

Fittingly, the award - presented by Rob's great mate Tony Hill - went to Rob's step-son ๐‘ฑ๐’‚๐’„๐’๐’ƒ ๐‘ช๐’Š๐’๐’„๐’–๐’“๐’‚๐’Œ, who endured a trying season with injury forcing him off the court and into an unofficial coaching/mentoring role.

Our final award is the Robert McDonald Club Person of the Year. Named for our great servant and inaugural Life Member, the award was presented by Rob's son, and women's head coach, Sam.

๐‘ด๐’‚๐’•๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’˜ ๐‘พ๐’‰๐’Š๐’•๐’‡๐’Š๐’†๐’๐’… took home this year's award for his tireless work behind the scenes and we congratulate him and thank him for all his hard work.
