πŸ€ 2026 FIBA RULE CHANGES | IMPORTANT UPDATE πŸ€

The 2026 FIBA rule changes officially came into effect on 1 October 2026 and will apply across all Perth Redbacks competitions.

We encourage all players, coaches, team managers and parents to familiarise themselves with the updated rules before returning to the court.

Our referees have been undertaking education and development sessions in preparation for these changes, and we have also offered opportunities for coaches to further their understanding.

As everyone adjusts to the new rules, we ask our basketball community to show patience, respect and support towards our officials, particularly our younger and developing referees.

Be informed, be prepared and know the rules before game day!

We look forward to another fantastic season of basketball! πŸ”΄βš«

πŸ€ READY TO START YOUR REFEREE JOURNEY?

Interested in becoming a basketball referee? Our upcoming C1 Referee Course is the perfect place to get started!

Designed for new referees, the C1 course introduces you to the key rules, mechanics and skills you’ll need to confidently begin officiating games. No previous refereeing experience is required.

πŸ“… Date: Saturday 3 October
⏰ Time: 9:00am – 10:30am
πŸ“ Location: Leisurelife centre
πŸ’° Cost: $70 per participant

How does the C1 course work?

The accreditation process includes two components that participants need to complete.

1️⃣ Complete the online learning
Create a Basketball Australia eTrainu account, enrol in the C1 Referee Course and complete all required online modules.

The online component must be completed before attending the practical Action Day.

2️⃣ Attend the C1 Action Day
Once your online learning is complete, register for and attend our practical Action Day. This session gives participants the opportunity to put what they’ve learnt into practice on court with support and guidance.

Your initial payment covers both components of the course, so there is no additional payment required on the day.

Following the Action Day, participants will complete the required on-court assessment to finalise their C1 accreditation.

πŸ€ Places are limited, so we encourage anyone interested to register early!

A huge congratulations to Brendan on reaching an incredible milestone of 400 Domestic Basketball games officiated.

Throughout his journey, he has been coachable, reliable, and always respectful towards players, coaches, fellow referees, and staff.
