π Plenty of standout performances across the club, giving our Team of the Week selectors more than a few headaches!
β Perth Poker League Men's 1st XI fought hard against Karrinyup but were unable to defend their first innings total. After resuming with Karrinyup at 1/47, the bowlers stuck to the task admirably, with Luke Andrews (3/52 from 16 overs) leading the attack as Karrinyup declared on 7/215. Asked to bat again, the Emus got some valuable time in the middle, with stand-in skipper Callum Lloyd-Watters producing an excellent 54 from 47 balls and Harry Deakin remaining unbeaten on 23, taking the side to 3/114 before time was called towards the end of play.
β Validus Fitness Women's XI faced a challenge against reigning A grade Premiers Warwick Greenwood, with the hosts posting an imposing 2/209 from their 20 overs after being sent in to bat. The Chooks continued to show determination and fight throughout the contest. Nicole van Wyk (1/21 from 4 overs) taking a wicket second ball of the match, bowling economically up front.
Chasing 210, the girls got off to a flier, with Amy Meeuwissen continuing her impressive start to the season with 25 from 31 balls, while Ash Smith provided valuable support with 11 from 8 deliveries. Although the Chooks didnβt get the win, the group continues to gain valuable experience, building confidence from matches against some of the stronger A grade sides, which will hold them in good stead for upcoming fixtures.

Prestige Liquor Subiaco Men's 2nd XI completed an outstanding victory over Ballajura Landsdale. After posting 156 on day one and taking early wickets, the Emus rolled Ballajura for just 74 early on day two, thanks largely to Connor Hall's outstanding 4/41 and Peter Bray's economical 3/11. Enforcing the pressure after setting the Blues 149 to win, with a sneaky chance of an outright, the boys took a few wickets to have Ballajura 2/69 at the close of day two. The win maintains a strong start to the campaign for the 2s.
β Total Air Men's 3rd XI were unable to chase down Quinns Rocks' first innings total of 208. After putting themselves in a strong position with the ball the previous week, the Emus battled hard with the bat but were eventually dismissed for 142. Josh Hyland (34), Liam MacLeman (29) and Rob Carlucci (28) all made useful contributions, though the target ultimately proved beyond reach.
β
Edgewater Pizza Boyz Men's 4th XI secured a hard-fought victory over Kingsway in one of the performances of the round. Defending 124, the bowlers produced a tireless effort to dismiss Kingsway for 111 after more than 63 overs at the crease. Adam Gatti starred in a true all-round display, backing up his top score of 32 with 3/26 from 18 overs, while the entire bowling group played their role in grinding out a memorable win, with the remainder of the wickets shared across the bowling group. The 4s remain undefeated in a strong start to the summer.
β
Men's 5th XI produced a sensational run chase to claim victory over Leederville. After restricting their opponents to 6/213 on day one, the Emus chased down the target in style, reaching 232 before being bowled out towards the end of day two. Dave Walker led the way with a superb 52, while Mark Bourne (43), Oliver Kelly (38) and David Hubbard (27) provided crucial support as the batting lineup combined brilliantly to secure the win.
Three wins from six sides, and several standout individual performances made for another encouraging weekend for the Emus. With momentum building across the club and competition for places in our Team of the Week increasing each week across our six teams, there's plenty to look forward to as we head into next weekendβs fixtures!
