The Mayne Tigers play the Caloundra Panthers this Saturday in the QFA Division 1 Reserves Preliminary Final and will be looking to join the Seniors in the Grand Finals the following weekend.

The Tigers enjoyed one of their most exciting days yesterday as they were stretched from the Den to Caloundra. The Tigers hosted the Senior Qualifying Final at the Den and managed to hold on to defeat a determined UQ Red Lions while the Reserves overcame a persistent Springwood Panthers in their Elimination Final at Caloundra. A big thanks to all the Tigers volunteers and supporters in getting behind the two teams at the two locations. The Seniors now advance to their third grand final in succession while the Reserves will play Caloundra in the Preliminary Final next week.
It was also a big day at the Den with Zac McLean and Daniel Schmidt playing in their respective milestone games.

Daniel Schmidt - It's been worth the wait

It has been a long time coming but Club Captain Daniel Schmidt will play his 100th senior game for the Tigers this Saturday in the 2026 Qualifying Final at the Den against the UQ Red Lions.

Schmidty as he is most affectionately referred made his senior debut back in 2017 playing eleven senior games and eight reserve grade games after graduating from the Mayne Colts programme. He is also another former Everton Wolves player to graduate to the Tigers and forge a formidable career in black and gold.

Ten seasons may seem to be a stretch to make it to this incredible milestone but Schmidty’s journey has been one that would have tested the resolve of the most focussed and dedicated footballer. He has endured season ending and perhaps career ending injuries on more than one occasion from internal bleeding from a horrendous collision to ankle and shoulder surgeries, the time off field rehabilitating may almost challenge the time in the game, but he has never wavered. He recently quipped that his journey to 100 games may be the longest in the club’s history but it was with his usual quiet humour and a wry smile.

Schmidty carried the Tiger’s ruckwork for several seasons leading to a number of his big injuries, but his work in defence in recent seasons has been the stuff of legend. He is a remarkable intercept player who has incredible closing speed, impeccable decision making ability and clean skills which is so often underestimated by his opponents.

While his role in the men’s department doesn’t always gain the accolades of his team mates in the more flashy positions, he can claim a Club Champion award in 2022 and several representative honours including being awarded the best on ground in a South v North Queensland game. He is also a member of the Tigers Centenary Premiership team in 2024.

He was elected Club Captain of the Tigers for the 2025 season but again lady luck intervened to sideline him for the season following a shoulder dislocation and surgery. He did put the time to good use however being part of the coaching group leading to the 2025 premiership. This has wetted his appetite for coaching and in addition to senior duties he is the Reserve Grade Coach in 2026.

There seems to be nothing that this bloke can’t or won’t take on as he is an important member of the Tiger’s Management Committee, a leading member of the Social Committee and a regular seller at the Tiger’s Breakfast Creek Raffles. While he was one of the quietest young men a few years ago, he has now blossomed into a great speaker, mentoring his Reserves, hosting Trivia Nights and even MC for the Tigers Presentation Night.

The Mayne Tigers are so very pleased to see Schmidty achieve this milestone he very much deserves and hope to see him kick on for many more.

Congratulations on 100 games, Schmidty!
It’s been a journey to get there. Serious injuries have made the road a lot longer than it should have been, with nearly 10 years between game one and game 100. But if there’s one thing that sums up Schmidty, it’s resilience.
Last year was probably the best example of that. As captain, Schmidty unfortunately spent the entire season injured, but that didn’t stop him from leading the group. He barely missed a training session, was always around the team and continued to contribute in every way he could. It would have been easy to become frustrated with the circumstances, but he continued to put the team first and did a fantastic job leading the group from the sidelines.
As a player, Schmidty is one of the most courageous guys you’ll see. He has absolutely no hesitation putting his body on the line and keeps his eyes firmly on the footy.
His contribution to Mayne also extends well beyond playing. He’s a valued member of the committee, regularly volunteers his time around the club and is always willing to put his hand up to help. This year he’s taken on another challenge, coaching our Ressies, and has done a great job.
Schmidty, 100 games is a milestone you’ve had to work incredibly hard for and should be proud of, you’re commitment to the club is second to none.

It's hard to think of a player who's had to overcome more setbacks than Schmidty on his way to 100 games. Time and time again he's been knocked down, only to dust himself off and go again. His Club Champion award and other individual honours reflect the quality of player he is, but his contribution to Mayne goes far beyond what he does on the field. From committee work to coaching, Schmidty is always putting his hand up to help make our club better. Congratulations on 100 games mate. A well-earned milestone for a bloke who is terrific clubman.

Really proud and happy to see Schmidty reach this well deserved milestone!! He has been a heart and soul operator since his first game - he kicked 3 goals in a great win and wrote his name on the BnF board that night after a few Bundys. Schmidty is up there as one of the most courageous and toughest players I have played with. He has had a few serious injuries but runs back with the flight and into packs harder than most. Awesome club person as well, organising events, selling raffles at the brekky creek, coaching, and just being a great bloke around the club. Has more than deserved every accolade that has come his way so far and I am sure there will be plenty more!! Congrats mate.

There’s not much this bloke hasn’t done for the Mayne Tigers. Leading us on the pitch, backing into a pack, club champion, coach, active committee member. I missed my KPD partner in crime a lot last year due to colliding with him at training right before season start. To come back as fearless as ever from that awful injury is another achievement on the pile. It has been awesome to have him back out there in 2026, and fantastic to see him reach a thoroughly deserved milestone. Schmidty is the first Tiger who I look to on and off the field for advice. Daniel “Champion Data” Schmidt has been rock solid down back ever since I joined the club. Always getting around the boys at training and on game day, his positivity is something everyone appreciates. Schmidty’s intercept marking game is as good as you’ll see, and it’s rare to see anyone beat the big man.

One word to describe our captain Schmitty throughout his career - courage! Schmitt is a player the opposition will almost certainly have circled on their whiteboard with a question mark. They cannot match up on him. Whether that’s in the ruck or more recently down back, he is so damaging and consistent each week. To bounce back from the injuries and setbacks he’s had and perform like he does is inspiring to the team and that’s what makes him such a great leader. I can’t wait to run out with you this weekend for your 100th game. Congrats Schmitty.

It’s been a pleasure playing with Schmidty over the course of his first 100 games. Undoubtedly of the most courageous and toughest players I know, he puts his body on the line every week which has most likely contributed to the reason it’s taken him so long to reach this milestone. A fantastic ruckman and dare I say even better key position back, he’s also just an all-round great leader of the club and top bloke. One of the most fearless blokes I’ve played with. Schmidt is always ready to put his body on the line for the team and as a result has copped some pretty nasty injuries over the years.
To reach 100 games is a great story of resilience and work ethic, especially now getting back into your prime form. Just keep well clear of Zac Quin.
Schmidt is the ultimate clubman and his willingness to step up into leadership roles, coaching and committee work rounds him out into just an absolute legend of the footy club. I can’t speak enough on the consistent effort this bloke puts into the team and the club as a whole.

It has been an honour to play alongside Big Schmidt and it’s awesome to see him finally tick off this milestone, with injury the only thing stopping this from happening much earlier. Schmidtty is one of the more courageous players I’ve played alongside. He has played in every key position on the ground and been one of the best players in the comp in each line. His move to Centre Half Back has been a masterstroke and his ability to intercept everything that comes his way is so important for us. From one former ruckman to another, I wish Schmidt all the best in game 100 and hope for a result that sees him into another Grand Final!

Zac McLean - Ageing like a fine wine

Former proud Everton Wolves Junior, Zac McLean will play his 200th senior game for the Mayne Tigers this Saturday at the Den in the qualifying semi final against the UQ Red Lions.

There has already been plenty written about Zac “Magic” McLean as you might imagine over this incredible journey to this considerable milestone. Even a nickname needs to be shortened and so our hero has been affectionately known as Mag since his days emerging into his senior career.

In 2023, we reported on Mag’s 150th senior game reflecting on how quickly he had progressed to that milestone and now just three seasons on we are here to celebrate only the twelfth Mayne player to reach 200 games with the eleventh being his good mate Jack Collings earlier in the 2026 season.

The last three seasons have seen Mag play some of his most impressive and consistent football while not missing a game until the birth of his twins this year to wife Madz. In 2023, we reflected on his newly achieved fatherhood with the birth of Maisie and we can now firmly say that marriage and parenthood has only made him better which is quite the statement considering his achievements since his last milestone.

A quick thumbnail reflection to 2023 included three senior premierships, a club champion award and a promotion to Club Captain as well as representative honours and numerous other awards.

However, since then he has upped the ante to two more senior premierships in 2024 and 2025 including a stunning five goal Best on Ground performance in a Captain’s grand final game in the centenary premiership in 2024. He has been a leading partner in the Tigers three pronged forward line over the last three years kicking 142 goals boosting his total for the Tigers to a remarkable 349 goals to date and with the finals series to play in 2026.

A lightly built player who has played tall and small in numerous roles over the years, he continues to improve with age. The last four years has seen him close to the top of the leader board in club best and fairest polling taking out two Most Consistent Awards, a Third Best and Fairest and then an Andrew Housego Runner Up Best and Fairest in 2025.

Zac was rewarded for his dedication to the Tigers in 2024 with Hall of Fame Membership and then Life Membership in 2025 for his work on and off the field. An impressive and consistent leader on and off the field, he has been one of the key ingredients to the club’s success over the last thirteen years.

Mag has also given his time back to his junior club, the Everton Wolves performing coaching roles and helping out where possible over the length of his senior career and continues to share his skills and football knowledge to the next generation whether they are players who have already graduated to the Tigers or they are in the pathway.

The Mayne Football Club thanks Mag for his dedication and loyalty to the club over this long period, wishes him well for this milestone game and for many more.

One of the things I’ve really appreciated as your coach is your willingness to do whatever the team needs. Over the last few years you’ve played roles and positions that I’m sure you never expected you’d be playing. My personal favourite was unleashing the “Magvantage”.

I've been lucky enough to coach some great players, but Mag is one of those rare blokes who leaves a mark far beyond just game day. The five premierships, leadership roles and individual honours tell part of the story, but it's the standards he sets, the way he competes and the way he puts the club first that make him special. Mag is just a genuine footballer and knows where to be and what to do in any situation on the field. His first 7-8 years were in the midfield where he racked up the disposals every week, and his last 3 years he has kicked over 50 goals as season playing forward with the occassional bit of ruck time. He also won a flag playing off the half back. Huge effort to play so well in any role! 5 senior premierships, a best and fairest and a couple of most determineds show the impact he has had on field. Off field, he and Mords were dominant, taking charge of most events and leading the way. Huge effort to play 200 games for the mighty Tigers! Congrats on a great career!

Mag won’t need too much of a gas up from me here. Confidence in his abilities on the field (and off the field, however unfounded) has always been his signature and what makes him such a great teammate to be around and a nightmare matchup. If you give him an inch, he won’t let you or anyone forget about it. 200 is an incredible mark along with an already HOF resume and a lovely young family life demanding plenty of attention outside of football. 2 more wins and you can bust out that filthy green suit again. Zac “Magic” Maclean has been a true champion for the Tigers over the last decade. I’ve seen the great man kick some incredible goals from seemingly impossible angles all around the ground. A true gentleman off the field and an inspiring leader on it. It’s been awesome to see him become a father of three over the past three years so effortlessly.
While most people call him Mag he actually prefers the nickname “Tex” these days.

I remember coaching Zac as a 6 y.o , 16 y.o at the Wolves, as a 26 y.o at the Tigers…joined at the hip to his little mate Jordy!!! From the cradle to some Danglies, fines at the cricket, now he’s a big boy with his own cradle & 3 more junior Wolves!!

What a great achievement for you and your family! 200 games for one club just shows the dedication through the ups and downs over many years! I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you as a scrawny back flanker, mozzie squad member, chase down tackler (he’s probably shown you), magvantage ruckman but taking the third best defender these days is your thing. You’re aging like fine wine! Love playing with you week in and week out. You’re the ever reliable. Enjoy the me time! Many more to come for sure! Zac “the Package” McLean - what an absolute weapon. I was introduced to Maj as our unofficial ‘off-field captain’ in 2021 where he welcomed me to the club through the preseason and club events. Since then Maj is someone I’ve grown close with and am lucky to run out with each week. They call him the Package because he really can do it all (except defend). I’ve seen him clean up on the ball, in the ruck and of course kicking bags of goals - which he is most commonly known for. The legacy Maj has left on the club cannot be understated. Club bnf, leader of goal scorer, norm smith 2024 - what a resume. Congrats on 200 mate, hopefully we can add another dangly to that resume this year!

Madge has been a consistent presence around the club since I arrived and a great leader for the boys both on and off field.As a fellow Everton junior Madge me welcome straight away and got me straight into the Tigers fantasy draft league (a good commissioner despite allegations of collusion). Has been a pleasure to see you become a great dad and partner for your family. You've pretty much achieved it all as a premiership captain, winning a GF BOG medal, league goal kicking and a best and fairest and hopefully we can tick off another flag for you this year!
Daniel Schmidt

It’s hard thinking of something new to write about Mag that he hasn’t probably already said about himself… “magician”, “elite”, “the full package”. In all fairness, a lot of it he isn’t wrong about. Absolutely one of the best players I’ve played alongside, and will probably go down as one of the all-time great Mayne ruckman after his 2024 GF domination. In all seriousness though, it’s been an absolute pleasure playing alongside you mate. Love the way you go about it both on and off the field (albeit this part of your game has faltered a bit recently), and stoked that I’ve had a chance to be part of it. Congrats on the 200th, just make sure you’re still looking for me in the goal square.

200 games is a ridiculous milestone.
Maj is a consistent performer on the field, and always manages to kick 2 or 3 every game. A seriously underrated runner and also quietly rates himself as the best third string ruckman in the comp.
I think everyone would agree that being able to balance your new family, new business and keep playing footy is pretty inspiring.
Congrats on the milestone mate and thanks for all the care and leadership you’ve shown over the years. You’ve been a great leader and role model for the team and for me personally.

From junior flags together at Everton when you didn’t speak, to now being one of the chirpiest players on the field. Congrats Mag on an unreal unbelievable milestone. Who would have thought the average bloke could make a career as a part time ruck and full time goal sneak! It has been nothing short of amazing to get to be part of just a portion of this milestone, someone that I have looked up to since my first run with the Tigers, as a leader, player and friend. No matter the challenges you have faced in the time with the Tigers ranging from Captaining a flag, to raising a family and growing a business while still sending blokes for an early shower most Saturdays, we know we will get the exact same package deal show up and challenge any team’s 3rd best defender each week. In all seriousness mate, I think I speak on behalf of a number of the playing group and club members, what you have been able to give to the club through creating a culture and level of commitment and superb playing performances has been second to none, a genuine Mayne Tiger. Congratulations on the milestone and can’t wait to run out with you on the weekend!

What a weekend for the Wolves!

Our U17 division 3 boys and U17 girls both got the job done in their semi-finals and are officially GRAND FINALISTS! 🏆

We couldn't be prouder of these incredible teams. Their hard work, determination and team spirit have earned them a shot at the ultimate prize this Saturday.

Now it's time to get behind our Wolves! Stay tuned for game times and locations so we can pack the sidelines with blue and gold and cheer them all the way home.

This weekend's finals action at the Den will see plenty of interest with games commencing at 11.45am.

To help us keep as much traffic off the local streets please consider overflow parking through the gate at the end of Mott Street as detailed in the aerial photo attached.

The finals commence this Saturday with the Seniors at home and the Reserves playing at Caloundra. It would be great to get plenty of support for both our teams. If you live up the coast, perhaps get along to the Ressies elimination final at lunchtime and give them a cheer. Otherwise, we need plenty of Tiger support at the Den this week as the last game of the season on our deck and one that could propel the boys into another grand final.

Vale Greg Fulton

The Mayne Football Club would like to acknowledge the passing of 1982 Premiership player Greg Fulton who left us this morning after a long battle with cancer.

A product of the Vermont Football Club in Melbourne, Greg was a tall upright half back flanker who joined the Tigers in 1981 and went on to be an important member of the 1982 Premiership team. He was always a startup selection such was his ability, consistency and resilience who played for the club for a period of five years including the losing 1985 Grand Final.

He had tried his hand in most jurisdictions including Victoria, WA, SA and Tasmania where he played for Glenorchy. He controversially missed selection in the senior team but starred in their Reserves Premiership.
In addition to his football prowess, he is revered by all his team mates and friends at the club as an absolute gentleman and the best of friends.

He is remembered for his love of the social side of footy life with friends recalling his part in a mock royal wedding at the Tigers Clubhouse in 1981 in which he portrayed Prince Charles to perfection where he married a 200cm bearded Steve “Froggy” Thompson starring as Lady Di with the nuptials officiated by the Very Reverand Mick Nolan.

A man of many talents, he will also be fondly remembered as part of a group of Mayne players led by Greg’s lifelong best mate Frank Clarke who would annually perform Christmas Carols at a nursing home in the Bellbowrie area. It was an annual event enjoyed by the players and loved by the residents.

There was a time where he was a Collingwood supporter but after settling in Queensland he got on board with the Lions and enjoyed attending all their matches as well as their memorable premierships.

Greg was able to join in the 2024 Centenary celebrations at the Mayne Tigers Hall of Fame night and the associated activities over that weekend where he enjoyed catch ups with many of his Tiger team mates and friends.

Greg had a love of horses where he enjoyed a hobby of ownership with his two most successful horses being The Face and Harry’s Yacht which he followed through Brisbane and Melbourne.
He battled through his cancer journey over an incredible thirteen years with tenacity and dignity with the Mater Hospital nurses in awe of his strength.

There will be a celebration of Greg’s many storied life at the Kedron Wavell RSL with details to be provided as soon as possible.
The Mayne Football Club would like to express their deepest sympathy to Greg’s family and friends at this sad time.
