Local Bowls Comeback Ends in Absolute Public Humiliation (Worth It for $6 Beers)
Returned to The Erko Bowlo after 12 months without touching a bowl… which is roughly the sporting equivalent of trying to ride a bike straight into the Tour de France.
Early signs were… concerning.
Bowls going everywhere except near the jack.
Teammates immediately questioning my selection.
Crowd (three retirees and a bloke eating chips) stunned.
But then something happened…
The competitive fire returned.
The sweet glory of a bowl tracking in.
The ancient art of hanging absolute s**t on your own teammates.
“Great line mate… shame about the speed… and direction… and concept.”
Somehow — against the laws of lawn bowls and possibly physics — we were leading all day.
Then came the final end.
The moment of truth.
The hero shot.
The legacy bowl.
Instead I produced a delivery so bad it may qualify as abstract performance art.
Opposition knocks the jack.
Game over.
Team emotionally ruined.
I will not be invited back.
BUT…
Two schooners for $12.60.
So really… who’s the winner here?
Sport.
Drama.
Betrayal.
Budget beer.
