Many people with hypermobility don't struggle with what to eat, they struggle with eating enough ๐ซ
Pain, nausea, bloating, reflux, and feeling full quickly can make meeting your energy and protein needs really difficult, which can then worsen fatigue, recovery, and POTS symptoms.
You don't always need to remove more foods. Sometimes the answer is treating the underlying cause while finding practical ways to fuel your body ๐
If you're struggling to eat enough because of your symptoms, book an appointment via the link in our bio and let's build a plan that works for you. Comment DIETITIAN to learn more!

The Pole Physio
The #1 experts in injury management of pole dancers and aerialists. Rehab with our online team ๐
Pole dancing has taught me so many things for which I am grateful, including strength, discipline, confidence, and resilience - despite the stigma that still surrounds it.
Behind the stereotypes is real athleticism, creativity, and hard work. Iโm learning that not every passion needs outside approval to be valuable, and Iโm proud of what this journey has taught me.

Pole dancers are real athletes. ๐๐ช
They train for strength.
They train for endurance.
They train for power, flexibility, coordination, and skill.
Yet somehow, many pole dancers are still told they need to "earn" their food.
Let's clear something up:
Food is not a reward for exercise.
Food is not something you have to deserve.
Food is not payment for being productive, disciplined, or active enough.
Food is a basic human need.
And for athletes, it's also fuel.
Your body doesn't care whether you've nailed your training session, hit a PB, or spent the day on the couch. It still needs energy to keep you alive, recover, adapt, think, and function.
The goal isn't to eat less until you've "earned" it.
The goal is to fuel your body well enough that it can do the things you're asking of it.
Because pole dancers aren't just performers.
They're athletes asking their bodies to do incredible things.
And athletes deserve to be fuelled. ๐

Sit with this one for a second. ๐ค
People are different.
People move differently.
People load differently.
People adapt differently.
None of that is a defect waiting to be corrected.
Somewhere along the way, "ideal form" got sold as a universal template. One right position, one correct angle, one perfect way to move. But your anatomy isn't a rendering error. Bone shape, joint structure, mobility history, training history, and previous injuries all influence how movement looks in your body.
Chasing someone else's version of perfect is often where problems begin. Forcing your body into positions it doesn't have access to can create the very issues you're trying to avoid.
Variation is not the thing to fix.
Technique matters, but often far less than people think. Training load, recovery, sleep, nutrition, stress, and overall programme design typically have a much greater influence on performance and injury risk.
The same applies to movement screening. Screening can be incredibly useful for understanding someone's movement capacity, strengths, limitations, and potential training considerations. What it cannot do is perfectly predict who will or won't get injured. Human bodies are far more complex than that.
The goal is not to move like someone else.
The goal is to move well as you. To find what is strong, controlled, sustainable, and effective within the body you actually have.
You will always move uniquely to how your body allows.
There is nothing wrong with that.
There never was. ๐

How does hypermobility impact my nutrition? - Part 2
Constipation and bloating are incredibly common in hypermobility, but they're not always caused by the foods you're eating ๐
Changes in gut motility, autonomic dysfunction, pelvic floor dysfunction, and other underlying conditions can all contribute to digestive symptoms.
The key is identifying what's driving your symptoms so you can target the right treatment.
As dietitians, we help piece the puzzle together. We assess your symptoms, diet, medical history and lifestyle to help identify what might be contributing. Depending on what we find, we may recommend discussing specific investigations with your GP to rule out or assess things such as food intolerances, pelvic floor dysfunction, autonomic dysfunction, dehydration, inadequate fibre intake, faecal loading, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), or other gastrointestinal conditions ๐ฅฆ
Once we have a clearer picture of what's driving your symptoms, we can create an individualised management plan that targets the underlying contributors, rather than just trying to cover up the symptoms.
If you're living with hypermobility and struggling with bloating or constipation, book an appointment via the link in our bio or comment DIETITIAN to learn more. We'd love to help.
