Studio Pilates in Fitzroy by appointment. You have the option of attending private or duet sessions. Kishore also considers Pilates to be a form of meditation.
Private and Duet Sessions at Afterglow
The Studio Pilates sessions at Afterglow are individually tailored to your strengths, current limitations and personal goals. The intimate setting and small class sizes ensure an exceptional and rewarding experience and an extremely high level of degree of attention. If you have an injury or condition your session will be more focused on rehabilitation, and
whether or not you have injuries or restrictions, you can expect a nuanced full body workout personalised to your needs. The Studio Pilates equipment, namely Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, High Barrel and small apparatus, enables the client to use their body in a nuanced, concentrated and intense manner. The Pilates equipment incorporates spring tension, which is used to strengthen specific muscle groups. The spring load challenges as well as assists the client to achieve exercises that would be less effective or impossible if attempted on a mat with the unsympathetic effects of gravity. If you are frustrated with Matwork or Group Reformer classes and are often left feeling that you are not challenged enough, or are pushed too hard, or worse, have injured yourself during a group class, then Studio Pilates sessions at Afterglow are likely just what you need. The Pilates Method
The Pilates Method improves strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility. It prevents issues such as lower back pain and remedies postural deviances. Pilates also incorporates a unique breathing technique which enables the client to engage their core throughout each exercise. This breathing technique improves your strength and balance, and thereby helps to prevent injury. By strengthening the connection between the mind and the body, Pilates also thwarts anxiety and lethargy. It is incredibly effective for post-injury rehabilitation, pre-natal preparation and post-natal recuperation. It is also a renowned system of body conditioning for athletes and dancers. However, studio Pilates sessions at Afterglow offer a form of exercise that is safe and suitable for everyone, including those that usually hate exercise. We live in a society where most people work at a desk, which is evidently very detrimental to the functionality of our bodies. If you spend your workday sitting at a computer and a lot of your free time watching Netflix or looking at your phone, it is likely that your abdominals and upper back are elongated and weak and that your lower back and hamstrings, among other things, are short and tight. Pilates is the perfect way to counteract the negative effects of sitting for long periods of time. It re-educates your body to be able to move through your day pain free and with strength and dexterity. Afterglow Pricing

Kishore Ryan discovered Pilates following a back injury in 2012. As a result of practicing the Pilates Method his back pain disappeared entirely, his posture improved considerably, and he grew an inch taller. Since then, Pilates has enabled Kishore to get rid of pain in various parts of his body. Helping his clients experience similar results is one of his favourite things about teaching. Recently, after experiencing persistent knee pain, Kishore became interested in toe and foot exercises somewhat outside of, but very much related to, the conventional Pilates repertoire. He has found that strengthening and mobilising one’s feet has a remarkable effect not just on one’s feet and knees, but also on their pelvis, back and neck. His sessions focus on breath as the foundation of movement, not just as a way to improve core control, but also as a means to reduce stress and anxiety. Education

New batch of stone boards for sale. Standing on a bumpy irregular surface like a stone board is a great balance challenge and an excellent way to mobilise and strengthen the muscles of your feet. These boards are very useful for combating foot, ankle, knee, hip, lower back, and neck pain. While balancing on one of these, especially if balancing on one leg, your body is forced to reflexively centre and organise itself in order to avoid falling over. Three available now. Four more available soon. The last time I made a batch of stone boards, Rob from Movementality complained that the rocks weren’t pointy enough, so I’ve made a couple with harsher surfaces for any foot masochists such as Rob.

Filmed myself doing .a.pilates class for on Thursday, one of my favourite parts of my lockdown week, also last night I was inspired by and did a three minute cold shower, I’ve been finishing with cold for a few seconds since I was a teenager, but three minutes is a very different experience, time slows down, geez, cold shower time is like plank time, felt amazing afterwards though, then I thought I heard a baby mouse under the washing machine, but it was a possum outside the window, come to my online mat class today at 1pm.

Following on from my last post, another lovely client who recently attended prenatal pilates sessions is the wonderful Flick, who also wrote a generous review:
‘I started my pilates sessions with Kishore in my second trimester of pregnancy, having no previous pilates experience. I was a little hesitant as other exercise like yoga was becoming difficult for me and I was worried about the safety of many types of exercise for both me and the baby. Kishore quickly put my mind at ease as he was clearly professionally trained and knew what was safe and what wasn't. His manner was very accommodating (the opposite of a pushy trainer) and the program he established for me made me feel strong and in control of my body. I'm now heading into labour confident and without many of the physical challenges a lot of people experience such as back aches and swelling. In addition to all of that, classes were really enjoyable, and no matter how low on energy I felt going in, I always left energised and empowered. Thanks Kishore, I really appreciate your dedication and care.’
Leading up to the birth of her beautiful little baby Zac, Flick attended duet sessions with her friend Kaye, and as I only had one pregnancy triangle cushion I had to improvise a little and use a jump board propped up on a box with a cushion or two for the head rest. Flick and Kaye would always laugh when they came into the studio and saw how many objects I’d used to create their two pregnancy thrones.
