A plank can tell us more than just how strong your core feels.
One metric we sometimes use is comparing a client’s plank hold with their back extension hold.
That gives us a simple ratio of anterior vs posterior trunk endurance, and whether one area may need more attention in their program.
It is not about chasing a perfect number.
It is about using testing to help guide smarter, more individual programming.
In this reel, I also go through how we set up a high plank properly, because position and control matter just as much as how long you can hold it.

Bone density is something most people don’t think about until they’re told it’s low.
The good thing is, bone responds to load.
One of the better known studies, the LIFTMOR trial, showed that supervised high intensity resistance and impact training twice a week improved bone mineral density and strength in postmenopausal women with low bone mass.
In practice, a bone focused program might include:
• Squat and hinge patterns
• Upper body pushing and pulling
• Progressive strength work
• Impact work where appropriate
• Balance and stability work
• Consistent nutrition, calcium and vitamin D
The key is that it needs to be progressed properly and matched to the person. Someone new to training, someone with osteopenia and someone with osteoporosis should not all be doing the same thing.
We use our own bone health protocols with clients and have seen some really encouraging results, but the basics still matter most.
Get stronger, load the body appropriately and stay consistent.

Good personal training isn’t just about counting reps.
It’s about understanding why you’re doing an exercise, how it should feel, when to progress it, and when to change it.
That’s where coaching makes the difference.
Every session should have a purpose. Whether the goal is getting stronger, moving better, rebuilding after injury or simply feeling more confident in the gym, the program should meet you where you’re at and progress with you.
At Healthspan Collective, our trainers focus on the details:
✓ Technique and movement quality
✓ Exercises suited to your body and goals
✓ Progressing strength at the right time
✓ Working around injuries or limitations
✓ Building confidence so you actually understand your training
Because long-term results don’t come from doing random exercises.
They come from consistent, well-coached training with a plan.
If you’re not sure what your training should look like, come in and have a chat with our team.
“The people look after you here"
That’s what personal training at Healthspan Collective is all about.
Our coaches watch closely, correct your technique and make sure every exercise is right for you.
It means you can train with confidence, stay consistent and build genuine strength over time.
New toy in the gym 📣
We have added the Concept2 Australia Ski erg to the space and it is a serious weapon for cardio, strength endurance and low impact conditioning.
The best part is it is easy to scale for almost anyone.
A few quick tips when using it:
Start with the damper around 5.
Higher is not always better. Think of it like gears on a bike. You want a setting where you can move smoothly and keep good rhythm.
Start tall with your hands above eye line.
Ribs stacked, soft knees and strong posture.
Drive the handles down using your lats, core and trunk.
Try not to just pull with the arms.
Finish with the handles near your pockets, then reset smoothly back to the top.
And if you have a lower body injury, sore knees, sore hips or you just need a lower impact cardio option, you can sit on a box and still get a great session in.
Mini workout to try: 💪
5 rounds
45 seconds SkiErg
45 seconds rest
Keep the effort around 7 out of 10 and focus on smooth, strong reps.
Simple, effective and a great way to build fitness without needing to run.
Train today for the decades ahead.

A very special member milestone 💛
After being such a consistent part of our studio, our wonderful member Bill will be finishing up with us at the age of 96.
Unfortunately, getting to the gym has become difficult without access to a vehicle, but we know Bill will continue moving and exercising wherever he can.
His daily routine, commitment and positive attitude have set an incredible example for our entire Healthspan community. Bill has shown us that movement has no age limit and that consistency really is the key to staying strong and independent.
We will certainly miss seeing him around the studio, but his impact will remain.
And, of course, Bill will always hold the record as our youngest member yet 😉💪
Thank you for inspiring us all, Bill and as you say mate. "Always well, why wouldn't I be "
