CANDLE MAKING @ OUR VETERAN’s HAVEN

Today we had a Candle Making Class at Our Veteran’s Haven. The class learned process of making scented and coloured Soy Candles.

The products had a Christmas theme with Frankincense and Myrrh, Gingerbread, and Sandalwood and Vanilla scented candles being created.

After we created the first batch we let them set to enjoy a tasty burger lunch produced by our famous culinary queen Stephen And-Jo Meade.

Check out the decorated results in the photos and some trial moulded candles too. Well done all who joined in the activity. It was a great day creating together.

HAVEN SUN, REST AND FUN

The suns out Our Veteran’s Haven, there is a group doing yoga in the hall (Thanks to RSL Active (RSL WA and Invisible Injuries)). There are two veterans practicing guitar together in the sun and we are ready for a Candle Making Class later today.

Today caters for all of our pillars …. REST, CREATE, RENEW.

A little more habitat, a little more balance in the ecosystem.

A big thank you to ourveteranshaven for building us an owl box to install here at 11 Acre Farm!

We’re always looking for ways to work *with* nature rather than against it. That means creating an environment where beneficial wildlife can thrive and play its part in a healthy, balanced ecosystem.

Our new owl box is designed to provide shelter for the Southern Boobook, also known as the *Nyawoo-nyawoo* in Noongar. These small, nocturnal native owls are found throughout the Perth region and feed on a variety of prey, including rodents, insects, reptiles and small birds. By encouraging natural predators onto the farm, we hope to support a more natural approach to pest management.

Providing nesting and roosting boxes is also a way to help compensate for the loss of natural tree hollows, which can take many decades to develop. It’s a small but meaningful step towards creating more habitat for our native wildlife.

THIS WEEKS CREATIONS AT OVH

This week at Our Veteran’s Haven we had workshops in both pottery and wood turning and wood working sponsored by RSL WA.

The wood turning group learned how to transform a 100 year old jarrah fence post into stunning vases. Check out the photos of the creations by Thomas Martin, David Thomas and Cath Hayes under the sage mentorship of John Scarfe.

Some of these creations are now on sale 11 Acre Farm. Why not pop in to 11 Acre Farm in Forrestdale (Wed-Sun) to check out the creations and for a great coffee of tasty snack!

Proceeds go to Our Veteran’s Haven programs and making sure they are free of charge for participants.

NEW OUR VETERAN’s HAVEN CREATIONS ON SALE

After a nice start to our collaboration with 11 Acre Farm last weekend Our Veteran’s Haven has added some new creations to the items for sale.

Featuring Wire Wrapped Gemstone pendants by Wynter, Baby Burl Cap Bowls and wooden spurtles and spatulas to replace your plastic kitchen utensils.

Workshop is open, sun is shining and coffee is hot here at Our Veteran’s Haven. Ready for some wood turning. We will be teaching our intermediate wood turners Tulip turning and our newbies will be practicing on Spurtles and Cheese Knife Handles.

Our Veteran’s Haven have teamed up with a fantastic local buisness 11 Acre Farm to sell some of the creations made by our Veterans and First Responders. This is an exciting collaboration with a local community focussed business that will help fund the Our Veteran’s Haven programs so they remain free to those who serve.
