Sunshine, parkrun, recovery and brekkie with the crew ☀️ Another great TH7 | Feel the difference Saturday Social!

A beautiful morning for an easy trot to New Farm Park for parkrun Australia. With summer fast approaching, the shady cool-down along Vernon Terrace back to TH7 was very welcome! 🥵🌳

Then it was time for Dr. Hydrate slushies, sauna and steam room sessions, followed by a cold plunge and contrast therapy 🙌🏼

We wrapped up with delicious brekkie and plenty of yarns at Freddie’s — congrats to Amy Robinson, our lucky brekkie winner! 🥳

Join us for the next one on Saturday 28 November. Link in bio to book your spot! ✨

Early alarms are so much easier when there’s a great bunch of friends and a beautiful spring morning waiting for you 🚴🏼‍♀️☀️

A few tech hiccups, a bug in the eye and a small stack kept Thursday’s ride interesting… 😝 Plenty of laughs along the way and still very much worth getting out of bed for!

This morning’s sunrise… Brisbane, you beauty! ❤️‍🔥

The skies were putting on a show for our TAC Run Club Mid Week Longy, and the humidity was making itself known too. We’re suddenly back to running through the Brisbane soup 🥵😂

Did you know we have an extras crew that heads out at 4:30am? A 30 minute out-and-back trot before meeting the main group at 5am. An early alarm, but so worth it for the stillness, quiet streets, those incredible red skies and a few bonus kms for those training for longer events 🌅

Then, as always, coffee and yarns at The Woolshed afterwards. A pretty great way to start a Wednesday!

Ever looked at your watch during the first kilometre of a marathon and realised you’re already running faster than planned? 😬

Going out too hard is one of the biggest pacing mistakes I see athletes make, particularly during the first 10-15km.

Race day excitement takes over, the atmosphere is electric and your legs feel fresh after a good taper. Your planned pace can suddenly feel too easy, but maintaining a solid pace for 42.2km is darn hard, and those quicker early kilometres can cost you later.

A smart pacing plan should include:

• Knowing the pace or effort you’ve trained to sustain
• Checking your pace after the first kilometre
• Pulling back early if you’re ahead of plan
• Practising race-pace efforts during tempo sessions
• Including sections at race pace within some of your long runs
• Adjusting for hills, weather and course conditions rather than chasing one exact number

Personally, I love starting slightly conservatively and coming home strong. Later in the race, I play the hunting game, slowly ticking off runners who may have gone out too hard and are beginning to slow down.

Every person I pass feels like a power-up in a video game! It builds confidence, lifts my energy and gives me extra motivation to push strongly towards the finish. 🎮⚡️

Remember, you don’t need to prove your fitness in the opening kilometres. Stay controlled early and give yourself the opportunity to race strongly when it really matters.

This is also where working with a coach can help. They can establish a realistic race pace based on your training, prepare you for the course and conditions, and help you practise your pacing strategy before race day.

Four years of Newstead Fishbowl Run Club 🫶🏼 Now stepping into a new chapter as THISBOWL! ❤️

What started with a World Mental Health Day event alongside lululemon Australia and New Zealand on 10 October 2021 led to our regular run club, and what a flourishing community it’s become. Community has always been at the heart of it all, and Monday nights have become a weekly ritual for so many… we even have a solid walking crew!

It’s been incredible watching the FISHBOWL brand grow, all the way to NYC, where I was lucky enough to visit during my trip last year🗽

Happy 4th anniversary, Newstead THISBOWL Run Club. Thanks for the kilometres, connections and memories! Stay tuned for some exciting new changes in the mix 👀 See you all tonight for a King’s Birthday trot!

Turns out, a few good friends, a sunrise, trees, birds and some big mountains to climb are all you need to quiet the world’s chaos and find your way back to yourself.

Trail running is always humbling and so good for the soul! We’re truly lucky to have such incredible trails on our doorstep. You’ll find me out here on weekends, and whenever else I can fit it in! 🌿⛰️

And if you haven’t tried it before, our monthly Club KT Trail Socials are a great place to start, with good company and plenty of encouragement along the way!

Our next one is Sunday 18th October at 6:15am, and we’re switching things up with a visit to Enoggera Reservoir. More details to come, keep an eye on the Club KT group on Strava!
