One-on-One with Jeff Matthews (Snowy βοΈβοΈ)
π When did you start hockey?
At the ripe old age of 6, running around for Power House because Dad played there. Apparently hockey was the family business and I didn't get much say in the matter.
π How did you get involved?
When your entire family plays hockey, joining is less of a choice and more of a hereditary condition. Started my junior years at Power House, moved to Frankston in U13s, had a brief "I'm leaving" phase at MCC when I turned 18, then came crawling back to Frankston about 10 years ago. Turns out home is where the hockey stick is.
π Favourite hockey memory?
Playing alongside my son David has been pretty special. The next challenge is staying mobile, upright and injury-free long enough to share the field with Rhys too. Winning premierships is also pretty high on the listβbecause let's be honest, celebrations are much more fun when there's a flag involved. ππ»
π A lifetime of hockey, a family full of hockey tragics, and still finding excuses to keep turning up to training. We wouldn't have it any other way.

βοΈ U10s vs U10s βοΈ
A fierce grudge match took place this week, with old scores settled, bragging rights on the line, and absolutely no friendships harmed in the process.
After a hard-fought battle, we're pleased to report that the real winners were... π Hockey and Fun. π
There were goals, giggles, great skills, plenty of running, and enough excitement to have everyone thinking they were playing in a grand final.
If your child is looking for a sport that's fast, fun, welcoming, and guaranteed to burn off some energy, it's not too late to join us this season!
Come and see what all the fuss is about β new players are always welcome. ππ

π€ ONE ON ONE WITH... Di β The One Who Couldnβt Just "Try Hockey" π
Back in 1983, a 12-year-old Di picked up a hockey stick on a grass field in Moranbah and thought, "Yeah, this'll do." Fast forward a few years and she's still here. Safe to say it wasn't a phase. π
The original plan? Accompany her younger sister to hockey because she didn't want to go alone.
The result? π§ Sister played for one year. π Di never left.
That's got to be one of the most expensive acts of sibling support in history.
Through the years, Di has balanced family, injuries, life, and even worked night-duty shifts just so she wouldn't miss a game. Because apparently sleep is optional, but hockey isn't. πββοΈ
Di joined the committee to help ensure future generationsβincluding her own kidsβhad a strong club to grow up in. Because clubs don't run on magic... although we'd all love to find the volunteer fairy who magically fills canteen and BBQ rosters.
One of Di's favourite hockey memories was playing her first senior game alongside daughter Abbey on her birthday in 2019 while Abbey was still a junior. And if that wasn't enough to make everyone emotional, she also loves pulling on the shirt with both her kids for Standout Cup.
From grass fields in Central Queensland to helping build the future of our club, Di is proof that sometimes all it takes is one game... and an unwilling younger sister.
β€οΈ Thank you, Di, for everything you do for our club. We're pretty glad your sister talked you into coming along all those years ago.

We hope everyone survived the King's Birthday long weekend... and if you didn't, training is the perfect place to rebuild your fitness, coordination and life choices (and collect your left behind hockey gear) π
The break is over, the excuses have expired, and we're back on deck tomorrow night!
π WEDNESDAY
πΉ Men: 7:00pm - 8:30pm
πΉ Women: 8:00pm - 9:30pm
π THURSDAY
πΉ U10 & U12: 5:00pm - 6:00pm
πΉ U14 & U16: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
πΉ Women: 7:00pm - 8:00pm
πΉ Men: 8:00pm - 9:30pm
Whether you spent the long weekend relaxing, eating your body weight in snacks, or perfecting your couch-to-fridge shuttle runs, it's time to dust off the stick and get back to work.
See you at training. The cones have missed you. The fitness drills definitely haven't. πββοΈπ¨

π§οΈπͺ Rain? What rain?
While most people were busy checking the forecast and questioning their life choices, our U12 Stingers were out there putting in the hard yards at training. Wet socks, wet shoes, questionable hairdos... nothing was stopping them.
They trained so hard we've decided to reward them with the ultimate prize...
πβ NO HOCKEY THIS KING'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND! βπ
In fact, we're giving EVERYONE the weekend off π€£
Go spend some quality time with your family, friends, pets, or if you've had enough of them already, use the long weekend to quietly disappear somewhere they can't find you. We won't judge. π
Enjoy the break, recharge the batteries, and we'll see everyone back at the pitch ready to bring the Stingray energy again next week!
#
Confused the opposition, confused the bench, confused the player who threw it. Elite ex*****on.

π WHY FIELD HOCKEY IS THE GAME TO PLAY π
Where else can you sprint for 70 minutes, accidentally become best mates with complete strangers, celebrate like you've won an Olympic gold after scoring one goal, and still be talking about it at the clubhouse hours later?
Field hockey has it all:
β
Fitness without the boring gym selfies
β
Teammates who become family
β
Goals, saves and the occasional spectacular miss
β
Road trips, laughs and lifelong friendships
β
A stick in your hand and absolutely no idea what you're doing for the first few weeks (we've all been there)
Whether you're 5, 15, 35 or 75, there's a place for you at the Stingrays. No experience? Perfect. Olympic aspirations? We'll take those too.
The hardest part is turning up for your first game. After that, you'll be wondering why you didn't start sooner ππ
It's still not too late to join the Stingray fever! Players of ALL ages and abilities are welcome.
Slide into our DMs or contact one of our section heads via the link in our bio and come see what all the fuss is about.
(And yes, bruises and deep heat are all included free of charge.)ππ
Elite preparation or organised chaos? The Women's ressies will never tell ππ

ππ JUNIOR WRAP-UP ππ
We absolutely love seeing our junior Stingers hit the pitch each week, giving it their all and proudly wearing the navy and gold. Wins, losses, goals, saves, questionable sideline coaching from parents... we love every minute of it! ππ
π This week's results:
π U12P β β
W 1-0
π U14D β β
W 2-1
π U16D β β L 0-16
π U16P β β L 2-5
π U18D β β
W 6-2
*no scores kept in U8 & U10, but they know π«£
A special shoutout to our U12s, where the father-son pick-ups are becoming just as entertaining as the hockey itself. Nothing says junior sport quite like watching Dad celebrate a 1-0 win like he's just secured Olympic gold. π
π
Results are great, but what we're most proud of is seeing every player give 100%, support their teammates, and keep improving week after week.
Want your kids to be part of the Stingray fever? There's always room for more future superstars, drag flick specialists, and post-game canteen enthusiasts. Get in touch and join the fun! πππ
