As we head to the end of another season, it’s a good time for this reminder from FNA.
Bring the passion, the noise and the banter, that’s part of netball! But poor behaviour, on or off the court, isn’t part of our club. Players, umpires, opposition, coaches and volunteers all deserve to feel respected and supported.
Let’s finish the season the way we want to be known: competitive, passionate, a little bit cheeky… but always respectful.
Play hard. Cheer loud. Behave well. 👏
🤝 RESPECT ON AND OFF THE COURT 🤝
Think about this for a moment…
A 14-year-old steps onto the court as a player, misses a shot, or makes a mistake — and we’re quick to say:
💬 "It’s okay, you’ll get it next time! Keep going, you’ve got this!"
But when a 14-year-old steps onto the court with a whistle, misses a call, or gets it wrong — suddenly we’re muttering under our breath, sighing, or making comments on the sideline.
That same 14-year-old is standing right there. 🫂
Both are learning. Both are developing. Both are giving up their time to be part of the game we love.
Umpires are the heartbeat of our sport — and our young umpires deserve exactly the same encouragement, patience, and respect we give our players. They’re not robots. They’re kids and young adults learning, growing, and doing their best.
If we want umpires to stay in the game, to improve, and to feel confident — we have to support them, not tear them down.
✅ Cheer for the players.
✅ Cheer for the umpires.
✅ Encourage every single person who steps up to help our game happen.
Respect isn’t selective. It’s for everyone — at every age, on every court. 💙
