This is the photo I’ve been chasing all season.
Just me and the old girl, Teaka, picking a few out of the paddock. I could’ve kept going… but after the wait, she was struggling to keep her eyes open.
Long morning for a 12-year-old lab — and that mattered more.
This one wasn’t about numbers.
It was about slowing it down, soaking it in, and getting that one moment together.
Could very well be our last season doing this side by side .

Honker Hunters Australia was proud to join forces and take some fellow duck hunters from the (Australian Deer Association ) Geelong Branch.
Building some skills and confidence.
Swapping duck hunting advice for Deer .
If you have not checked out the Geelong ADA head over to there socials. One of the Best branches to join up too with a massive schedule all year. Branch camps, Backpacking trips, hunting locations , major raffles.
After running through some technical tips and sharing a bit of personal experience, they were ready to start smashing targets.

The simulated field set up mirrors real duck hunting scenarios.

Great to see everyone taking on the advice and improving with knowledge.

Victorian Duck Opening 2026 -

The alarm will sound long before the sun rises.
Boats will slide into dark water, headlamps will cut through the fog, and the first wings of the season will echo across the marsh.

Yes, the bag limit is nine birds.

But opening morning has never truly been about the number.
It’s about the cold air in your lungs.
The sound of wings over the decoys.

The quiet laughs in the dark with mates and family beside you.
One day the guns may fall silent, the lakes will look the same, but the people beside you might not be there anymore. Seasons change.
Life moves on.

So take the photos. Tell the stories. Shake the hands beside you in the blind and soak in every second of the morning.
Because years from now, it won’t be the ducks you remember.
It will be the moments.

The final expo before the 2026 duck season kicks off.
This one was the Geelong Field and Game expo display before everyone started coming through the gates.
Special mention to Travis Smith for all his hard work on the night at the show grounds.
The junior duck calling competition had alot of kids blowing the caller.

Another beginner day done and dusted.
After Ty Pedersen cooking Venison snaggs last night on the Australian Deer Association - Geelong Branch display and me Honking over at Duck Expo display we backed it up with smashing a few clays
These New blokes Philip Chu and TY did exceptionally well on a tough ground set up
The ducks this season will have no chance in your decoy spread .
